A Disturbing Report from ATK

Has anyone read up on the destruction of military brass by ATK? I found the following article at: http://www.ammoland.com/2010/03/24/military-cartridge-brass-destruction-round-2/. At a time when brass is becoming harder to find, why would one of our own, other than greed, do such a thing?

As in the same ATK that owns RCBS,Federal Cartridge,Alliant power and Speer bullets?????

ATK, as in Speer Bullets, Speer Ammunition, Federal Ammunition, CCI, Blazer Ammunition, RCBS, Champion Clay Targets, Gunslick, Outers, Shooters Ridge, Weaver Mounts and Alliant Powder (http://www.atk.com/CorporateOverview/corpover_securitysporting.asp). Hey, these are our people! Why would they act in this manner toward the shooting fraternity? This is disturbing. Is it a harbinger of worse to come, especially in light of the dearth of Federal primers?

Well Doc it looks like ATK is melting the brass down and then using it in their own cartridge cases.
Why? That part is beyond me...................

That was my take as well. However, ATK makes it clear that they do not want spent mil brass to fall into civilian hands. This may be a stealth move on the part of the government after the fiasco of an attempt to demil brass by government fiat this past year; or perhaps ATK is moving to increase the revenue stream. ATK's position becomes evident from brochures they have published:

It was my understanding that the federal government had backed away from the requirement that all spent brass be demilitarized after only a a couple of days this past year. This looks as if the practise is continuing, which can only contribute to increased costs for brass.

Well Doc the truth of the matter is that the US Government knows pretty well that the American people will never tolerate being disarmed.Guess they figure that it would be easier to prohibit us from obtaining ammo.
