I saw a box of 100 FMJ RN 50 grain 25 cal bullets on the shelf the other night. They of course were made by the competition. but they were only $6.00!! I cant find them listed in the Hornady catalog for this year or last. Mayge they are on old run of pistol bullet? Any who, ideas for a cheap 25 cal. plinker bullet. CL

CL,

I would contact the powder manufactures for some recommendations.

Years ago when I was a kid, Dad and Grandpa loaded up some .25 cal pistol bullets in Grandpa's .257 Weatherby - this was sometime in the early 1960's. Grandpa liked to experiment...

The bullets didn't make it to the target! Even at about 10 yards, there was just little bitty holes all over the target paper, from bullet fragments!

Fun stuff, but not real worthwhile. Anyway - you stirred an old memory. Grandpa had a lot of fun evaporating ground squirrels with that ol' Mauser - actioned Weatherby when I was a kid! That was with a 100 grain hollow point though.

Regards, Guy

OK I am confused.

What cartridge do you want to reload for?

What is the make and true diameter of the bullets you got?

Jeepers- didnt mean to make this complicated. Here are all the details

The bullets in question are Hornady. They are marked 50 Grain, FMJ RN. .257(25Cal.)

I was looking to load them in my 250 3000 Savage.

The only bullet that is remotely close to the info you provided is a .251 cal Hornady 50 gr FMJ made for the 25 AUTO. It will not work in your 250 Savage or any other 257 cal rifle.

Thanks Pop- I bet them are those. As Ilook at the fine print in the link I see they are listed as pistol bullets. Figures. Thanks for looking. Will stick with 75 grain v-max. Cheap and scarry accurate. CL
