So true. From what I've seen the Amax and ELD-M bullets perform the same on game. I would want to keep the velocity well below 3000fps

Thats why I only shot one critter with the scenar. It worked exceptionally well, but it occurred to me that I don't want a bullet that performs fantastically when conditions are right, I want a bullet with predictable performance regardless of the situation. But the match type and Bergers do kill with authority when people have the fortitude to wait for the shot.My relatively short big game guiding career soured me on Atips, Sst Berger's and eldm on game. Granted the results were generated by relatively inexperienced hunters, that is a critical factor but things can go a little sideways for the very experienced. I don't know anyone who's shot more elk or knows more about how to shoot them than the man from Idaho, he just mentioned getting one lung . My bull last year would have been a rodeo had I not had an AccuBond.
Sometimes critters wiggle when you're focused on sight picture, sight alignment, breathing and trigger control and your perfect shot, not so much all of a sudden.
I select bullets not for perfect shot placement but for a minor error that causes, in the case of elk, that bullet to strike the strongest bone in any deer species.
Don,I do love ballistic tips on deer. The antelope I shot on Tuesday at 350 yards was absolutely DRT. Not a twitch from a 100 gr. BT started at 3077. Heart and lungs absolutely destroyed, every thing from esophagus to heart was damaged. Didnt even hit a rib on the way in. Exit wound looked like a shrapnel wound. I do like DRT. I do think I’m going to try and get that #1 to shoot a heavier ballistic tip based on what I saw, particularly if I use the rifle for mule deer, roughly twice the size.
The 215 and 230 Hybrids do have a large following and they work. I can vouch for the 230 it was the prefect bullet in my 30-378 factory barrel. Now I shoot the 245gr EOL in my 8 twist which is a “hunting” bullet. But the match type and Bergers do kill with authority when people have the fortitude to wait for the shot.
I haven’t tried the 115s since I completed my modifications to the 257, I need to do that. I found I do have about 25 110s in my cabinet as well. Prior to the mods I wasn’t impressed with the consistency but I‘m betting I can get them to shoot now.Don,
The 115 BT is the bullet for the 257 Roberts. Deer are DRT with a shot through the slats.
