a typical boned core bullet.....

I grew up in the same town as Bryce and we hunted and fished together in our younger years.
I won't debate his knowledge but I will say that he tells a good "story"

Chances are he just doesn't like the 270. Its okay to not like something, plus it gives him as a writer a little character. Nobody can really argue thr 270 is a great round, but some folks just don't like them. My old man swears up and down a 270 is "light" for big game, at the same time he has used and 06 and 338 for all of his big game hunts. He hasn't taken a single head of game with a 270 but his friends, hunting partners and others have accompanied him and taken just about the same amount of game, with their 270's. Different strokes for different folks. You couldnlt wrestle my 270WSM from me. Scotty

So how does he justify not using a .270? By looking at a loaded cartridge and seeing a smaller bullet? Even though he see's the ballistics for both
and sees no difference to wink at, he still leans toward the 06?

He justified it by what his father always taught him, 30 cals are better at killing stuff. Not saying he is right, and he would never argue it with somebody, but he likes the ability the 30 cal Nosler Partition has shown on a whole lot of game in a 30-06. Plus, just about every outfitter he ever hunted with always recommended the 06 so it kinda stuck. The only time he strayed was when he hunted Brown Bear in Ak. He used my 338. He liked it so much, he used it a few more time for elk and whitetails. scotty

I had an 06... but i couldn't tolerate the recoil. Sos I's went and gots a .270.

It will do what the 06 will do, with less recoil. That's my take.

so witch hornady disighn would you use on a large animal (elk)

Assuming cartridge suitability (e.g. 7 mm RM) and appropriate bullet weight (e.g. 160 grain or heavier), the Interlock can work just fine. Certainly, the InterBond and the SST work just fine. The design is fine, depending upon the cartridge and velocity.

lets say for a 270 wsm for example

If I had to shoot a hornady bullet out of a .270 (win or wsm) for elk, it would be the 150gr Interbond. In the past I've had such good luck with the 140gr AB, and 150gr Partition, I've never seen a reason to change.

Right now, my hunting load is the 130gr Interbond out of my 270WSM at a touch over 3300. I wouldn't have any issues using it for elk. I have found bullets in the dirt bank I shoot into and the Interbonds held up really well in dirt and rock. I am pretty sure an elk is a little softer than that. Scotty

the reason i ask about the hornadys in 270 wsm is because thats what i can get local,(he carrys mostly interlocks tho) that and sierras, never used any of the sierras but im sure there about the same, ( game kings and pro hunters )

I wouldn't have any issues using a 150gr Hornady in the 270WSM at all. Hornady makes some great bullets and they would work just fine for the 270WSM with heavier weights. I would prefer the Hornady's over the Sierra's, but that is just my opinion. The Hornady's would probably hold up a little better up close with the Interlock ring. Go for it, I don't think they will let you down. Good luck. Scotty
