I'm buying some Nosler bullets, 165 gr Ballistic tip and 200 gr Accu spitzer BTs. Rifle is 30-06 Springfield reciver- Douglas 24" barrel 1:10 twist- Bell and Carlson stock, Timney trigger - 4X Lyman All American scope at moment ( will install 3-9 X40 Bushnell Trophy soon). I've been shooting pretty consistent groups at 100 yds, MOA with 150 gr Hornady 49 grains of IMR 4064 = WLR primers. Reasons for B&C stock and Timney was to tighten groups as the old Springfield wood didn't get it any longer and neither did the military trigger.
Was told by Douglas that 4064 was pretty good powder for this barrel.
Looking at the Nosler website for 200 gr Accubons shows H414 starting at 47 and max 52 for 200 gr bullets, but shows accuracy load with 53 gr's!!
Please explain???
I do like the load for accuracy at 57.5 for the BT 165 Noslers IMR 4350.
sounds like a good load. I've not shot Nosler's before, 95% is with the Hornady line of bullets. Any advice other than working up loads...I know.
I've been loading for some years . Why doesn't the Nosler website show any IMR 4064 powder loads? I's a little faster powder than Varget and 4350.
Not sure where the H414 is between the two or not? Advise on this too.
First post is long. sorry..

H414 is the same powder as the old W760.
I'm with you, I wish Nosler would list more powders. Since they don't that's why I have 5 or 6 books I can cross reference to reach a safe starting point, and work up from there. If you gun seemed to like 4064 in the past with a similar weight bullet, that' probably where I would start.
Personally I've had the best luck in the .06 with H4350.

I've tried IMR 4350, one reason to stick with IMR 4064 is less powder.
JMHO I feel like I'm saving a little $$. I've been shooting Hornady 150 gr BTSP and 165 gr BTSP for last couple years. I'll post some pics when I get home. Also getting some Hornady SST in 150 and 180 grs to shoot.

Welcome to the forum.

A_S is spot on, a full case of powder (higher load density) is typically more accurate. The PT's and AB's are both very accurate hunting bullets. Their on game performance is second to none! If you want to save some money, go to Shooters Pro Shop which is Nosler's retail store and buy factory seconds.
That is just about all I shoot and I have several rifles and loads that shoot well under .5 MOA! I would also look at RL 22.

Please keep us posted on what works good in your Springfield. I just inherited my deceased Pap's 03 Springfield Sporter he built over 50 yrs ago, last week. I just traded my Browning 06 bolt to my dad for his Mod 70 7 mag which I kind of took over the last few years anyways. The browning shoots the 150 Interlock house a fire with max charge of IMR 4064 and like most 06 rifles, likes IMR 4350 with the 165 bullets. Now, I need to start working on some new loads for the Springfield. According to my dad, my pap shot the 165 speer hot points through it, but my dad said he also had some get away from failures with that bullet also.

Would someone from Nosler answer this, please.

Just my $.02, the Nosler Manual shows 53 grs of H414 as the accuracy and the MAX load for the 200 AccuBond. But, I'd suggest RL22 or H4831 for this bullet. I've had good luck with both of them in the '06. The manual says RL 19 is the most accurate.

I agree with what the others said, go with 4350 on the 165's. If it don't work, try RL 19.

Good luck!

Thank you, Steve. I've been using IMR powder. Just a point here, With the prices of powder I cannot buy all different brands including the Alliant RL 19. I'll have to ask on these boards to see what others shoot.
IMR 4064 has been the most reliable for me for 3 different bullet weights in the Hornady bullet range. Just ordered the Nosler bullets and haven't tried them yet. So at the moment I have Hod 414, IMR 4350, IMR 4064, IMR 4895 and Hod Varget. ( my 243 Rem Mod 788 shoot 1/2 MOA at 100 with this powder with either 80 or 100 speer bullets.)
can't afford to buy more at this time but really appriated the advice everyone is giving. I would like to hear what everyone shoots with these powders and the bullets I have now. I'm using Winchester brass for most part, but have some older brass once fired (200 or so).
edit...I use WLR primers. WLR are the hottest primer and prefered in the Lyman manual I use for loading. I follow the Lyman Loading manual.

I Have had acceptable results with Imr 4350 in my '06 but, H4831sc and the 165gr BT/AB is the best shooting combination in my rifle.
I have also had great results with RL-22 and 180 Interbonds.
Rl-19 also gave great results with the 165gr bullets.
When you can pick up some of the Alliant powders. They meter well and perform great.
RL-19 and RL-22 are the main course in my hand loading diet. They are followed by H4831, IMR 4831, and IMR4350.
