Who does everyone prefer? I went to Tisas website to order some additional mags for my 1911 A1 9mm but the reviews there were a crap shoot. Apparently its a random draw, which brand (Mec-gar, Sabatti, others) they will send whether or not it’s functional. So rather than roll the dice, I think I will just order some from a manufacturer.

So who do you prefer?

+2 on Wilson's ... carried them in my 1911 for over 3 decades with never one single solitary malfunction...NONE! They were not babied either but used like any other magazine with 1,000's rounds put through them, speed reloads dropping the mags on the range floor, drill after drill, etc. Clean them out after training & put back into service.

When the springs get weak I have rebuilt them without issue.

In 45 the Chip McCormick and Wilson mags have been great for me, for decades.

When I got the 9mm Kimber 1911, it came with a half dozen "Kimber" brand mags. Those used to be made by Chip McCormick - I don't know who makes them now. Several of them barely worked when I got them! I could get 4 cartridges in them, instead of 10... No bueno.

But, I cleaned and lubed them and stuffed them with more and more 9mm cartridges, working towards full magazine capacity. Eventually they all loosened up enough to take the full 10 rounds. Life with them has been great since that point. It took me a couple of weeks working with them. That really bugged me, because my 45 Kimbers had been excellent from the beginning. The 9mm has now become 100% reliable, but it took some patience and effort on my part.

Oh my goodness - a full size, all steel 1911 in 9mm is so EASY to shoot well. Makes me grin. My son shoots a 45 1911 and when he tried the 9mm he laughed and told me that it felt like shooting a 22 rimfire. I think you're going to enjoy that gun Dale.

Regards, Guy

I like the MecGar because they don't have a spacer bar on the back side of the mag, the front is slotted to keep the rounds in proper position. Plus they hold ten rounds. Plus they have a much better price than the others. I bought six if them for my Sprinfield Ronin lightweight and they have functioned flawlessly.

If I'm not mistaken MecGar makes the mags for Sig Sauer.

Yeah this Tisas has been very impressive so far! Love the Parkerized finish and fit of all the parts.

The only complaint I have is the sights. They are the rudimentary GI type sights which I thought would be just fine but they are a bit tough to see as there is no daylight on either side of the front sight when nestled into the rear sight notch. I may get some aftermarkets, or try to file the rear sight a bit. Also it seems to shoot a bit low for me.

Other than that, 200 rounds downrange with nary a hitch, and yes very easy to shoot well. Love the 9+1 capacity. The 115’s have shot dramatically better than the 124’s in both FMJ and JHP selections. I was given an box of the Winchester (orange, red, black and white box) 115 grain Silvertip JHPs that are my edc right now.

The Tisas came with 2 mags, was thinking I would get 2-3 more.

Besides mags, what kind of strong side draw leather holster for edc does everyone espouse?

Look at Williams Gun Sight or Trijicon night sights.
I have a custom IWB holster by HBE.

Harrison makes a really nice u'notch rear sight that fits the milspec rear sight slot. They also have a corresponding stake in front sight if your 1911 has such.

These are my edc holsters. The clip holster is 45 years old. I got it when my Lt. told me he didn't want to see my 1911 stuck in my waistband without a holster ever again. A rookie doesn't mess with the Lt. The other is a Tagua. It conceals well even under just a shirt. Both are very comfortable with only one draw back, they are worthless for range use because they don't easily reholster. It's a tradeoff for EDC.

I only use made in the USA Metal Form magazines in all my 1911s, with that said the Mcgar magazines are made in Italy.
Most US manufactures rely on Metal Form for their factory magazines, The Military pistol teams only use Metal Form and nothing else.
By the best and save money buy not buying the cheaper brands.
If you look closely at a Metal Form,Wilson ,Colt, SA, maybe Kimber (since I have no experience with them) are all made by Metal Form to manufacture specs.

I run Wilsons in a Colt Combat Commander. The only Mec Gars I have are for a SIG P220 .45 ACP. Two factory mags that came with the gun plus two spares I bought from a dealer.
