Alternative 45-70

Fascinating. Henry seems to turn out a well-built product; I'd think these would be worth looking at.

Scotty, a 45-70 was on my short list. I was looking around but one of the guys has an old Marlin 444 that he got from his father in law that he wants to get rid of. I'll probably pick it up when things settle down. I've seen some little Henrys, and the owners were pretty happy with them.

Bill,

The 444 can be a great cartridge. It does hit hard and work marvellously on game.

Bill, I'd be all over that .444 like a pack of dogs on a crippled cat. .45-70s are a lot easier to find than .444s.

If I didn't already have my 1895G, I would be all over it.

Here is the new Henry 45-70. Seems like it should be one heckuva great rifle for those looking for a good basher. All of the Henry's I have seen thus far have been pretty nice. Good wood and blueing and no Remlin stigma..

Pretty good price on them as well, when they are available...
+1 Scotty!..that's why I sold my Remlin  ...yup, started to act up on me, so I sold it back to my dealer...Lou

Man, I didn't know you ditched your 45-70 Lou. With rifles like the Henry out there, I wouldn't hesitate a bit to pick one of them up. I am sorta anxious to put my eyes on one of them. I think they are going to be some good hunting rifles. Wished I needed two 45-70's!

And what does need have to do with the matter at hand?

Nothing at all, it is just that I NEED others right now. I don't see myself without a 45-70 though. It is a beast of a cartridge and alot of fun to load for too.

Scotty, I'm on the prowl for 1 more rifle :) ..just not sure which one, and or caliber just yet :?: ..i've looked at many, but still can't make up my mind.with the .308 norma mag, and .270wsm, im pretty much covered pal, for now

I am still thinning the herd. I believe that Scotty will get another of mine for his next build. However iffffffff a bargain presented it'self? I will be ordering some more 45 cal bullets soon, so that I can give my nose some more training with the 70. I really want to hunt it but, most of the country I hunt is "NOT" 45/70 country.

Bill,

The 45-70 is not limited to short range, both Scotty and I have shot ours at 300 yds. Even if you don't hunt with a 45-70, they are very cool to shoot.
