Lou,

Sounds like a great find. There is something nice about leaving the lever guns unscoped. However, the more I age, the more I appreciate good glass--even on the lever guns.
Thanks fellas!..well here it is, got it all mounted and cleaned up for sunday  ..although the scope is one I had for a back-up, it's a Bushnell Trophy, 1.75x4x32mm on a weaver style base (allows me to remove the lupy qrw rings in seconds and use my open sights.I well upgrade to a much better scope, but for now, this one well work just perfect, these lever rifles are just super fun to shoot, and pack some fire power at close range. Regards..Lou

No marks visible on the rifle that I can see. I guess your wife hasn't clobbered you with it yet. It looks pretty good from out here.

Preventive maintenance is always a smart move for any gun crank.

I will have to keep this in mind! Thanks, Doc!

A friend of mine keeps tellg me "Getting old isn't for wimps".
At 52, my eyes are not what they were 20 yrs ago.

Take a look at the VX-3 1.75-6x32mm if yiu decide to go with a scope. Small and compact in size but man is it bright. IMHO, its the perfect power range for the mighty 45-70.

+1 Jimmy!..that's the scope me wife's getting me for x-mas  ..but she said "no more guns for this year"..I said, "no problem"

she said "no more guns for this year"..I said, "no problem"

Surely you weren't misleading your dear lady in that response? No more guns this year?

Mike, I must admit, 3 new rifles in less than 4 mths is enough for now?..I think i'm pretty much covered for now..Now time to get ready for my 2nd daughters wedding in august  ..that's 2 daughters married in less than 2 years. The 3 rd one is still in university for another 2 yrs pal. I have the moose hunt in november, and taking my better half somewhere down south in Jan 2013  ...Lou

It does sound as if you have done well during the past several months. Paying for weddings can be pricey. The nice thing about paying for university is that it is spread out over several years. Weddings, however, dump everything on Dad all at the same time. Hey, we're still pulling for you on the moose hunt.
