Antelope Rifles

JD,

Your 280AI is perfect. My Favorite Antelope rifle is a Weatherby Ultra light 280rem w/ 3-10 Swarovski scope. I use 160 Partitions so it works well on Deer & Elk too. I am going a use a 338wm this year. I have taken Elk & deer with it so I want some Antelope blood on it just to see what happens. Let me know when you are going to be in town we can swap some stories with you and Fotis. Brian

You are on Brian.
I will be there on 9/27.

The 338 should work well. I was planning on a long range kill with the 300 gr AB btu I got one a few weeks back on a crop damage deer, 439 yds.
The 280 Ai has been neglected the past few years so she got the nod for some action in WY. The 280 AI 140 gr AB is confirmed out to 600 yds.

Come on over for a beer Bri! I still need to give you your 10mm stuff!

You know, I clean forgot that I have a 6.5 Creedmoor; I do believe that would work for antelope. Or possibly it's time to buy a...

Well if we get to go to Wyoming, they have the Hat 6 ranch closed because of a fire right now, then I'm taking my .458 Lott, .338 Edge, and 7-300wm or 6.5-300wm if PTG get's my reamers done in time.
Good luck with the ptg reamer, I have a couple projects at the mercy of ptg. these will be the last.

I rode their azz a bit and she said it would ship Monday the 17th. I will be on the phone Monday to make sure it does too.

I will probably look at JGS or Manson for future projects. I've used JGS and they make excellent reamers. I've heard nothing but good about Manson.

Dave,

Nice looking handguns.
I did consider using my T/C Contender 6.5 JDJ with a 120 gr BT.

She shoots pretty good out to 300 yds.

That works JD, I like that flatside of your's! And with the 6.5 JDJ, it ought to do goodly.
300 yds is about where I limit myself with my 6.5, even though it is capable a bit further. I'm running the 125 gr. PT's at 2750 under 1/2 moa. I have the scope set with a 4" PBR of 235-240 yds. and still on the hair at 300, with plenty of energy left to do 350+. I got good to better accuracy with the 120 BT's as well, at 2850. Some reason, I just prefer the PT's, as I use it for deer also. And I just think the PT's stand a better chance against Murphy
It don't get much more challenging than hunting with a handgun.
Unless of course, one is trying to poke one with a bow.

My 6.5 JDJ shoots the 120 gr BT at 2400 fps. With a 100 yd zero, I can use the bottom post of the duplex reticle to be about 2" high at 300 yds. IMHO, it is just about perfect.

Ahh, the siren song for enablers...

Doc, you need to buy a Weatherby Vanguard in .240 Weatherby, so I can kype your load data when I get mine...

Kurt,

The last 240 Bee I loaded for wound up with a load consisting of Weatherby brass, Federal 210 primers, 100 grain Nosler Partition bullets and 49.5 grains of IMR 7828 propellant. It was a mild load, but it was exceptionally accurate.

Model 70 264 Winchester Magnum?

Which would be my choice were I to be hunting antelope. The last year or so has made me really start to love the big 6.5.. Easy rifle to shoot and it is pretty nice at distance. The 140 BT's and AB's shoot really well.

Yeah, a 264 WM is in the running, Scotty. I have a long action Featherweight stock lying around. As you know, that is a dangerous thing. It mysteriously attracts actions and barrels and scopes and... Oh, my!

Mike,

I think the ultimate would be the 264 Win Mag loaded with the 140 gr BT.
Talk about a flat liner___________!

Uh, oh! My account at the LGS is building. This could be dangerous.

My go to antelope rifle is a plain old Winchester M70 push feed pushing the 150 gr. Sierra Game King at 2930 FPS. I know mundane and boring but it works for me.
I didn't draw a tag for antelope this year so it's deer and elk for me. I'll be using my M70 Featherweight in 7x57 with either the 120 or 140 gr. TSX depending on which one the rifle likes best. Not my choice of bullet for that cartridge but if one is lucky enough to draw a tag for the Kaibab for deer, they ask hunters to "volunteer" using ammo or handloads with a monometal bullet. It's for the condors. My wife will be using my M70 Featherweight in .257 Robt. with the 100 gr. TSX but at least I have that load worked up. If it were not for the "voluntary" thing I'd be using the 7x57 with it's favorite load, a 140 gr. Ballistic Tip at 2800 FPS.
Good luck on your hunts. I have a month and a half to go before I go on mine. :(

Nothing wrong with the 30-06 for antelope.
I shot this speed goat 30 years ago with a M700 BDL 30-06 150 gr PT at 200 yds.
