Big Bore Levers

Oh, yeah, Kurt, scope and mounts would be gone pretty quickly were that to drift into my orbit.

Yeah, Mike, you'd have to lose it fast for fear of upsetting the Euroglass!

I have to agree, the scope would have to go. I'm thinking a VX-3 1.75-6x32mm would be about perfect.

Kurt,

I'd do with that scope what I've done with three others that I've acquired when buying rifles during the past year. They are donated to be given away to new shooters who can't afford a scope. Hopefully, it will get them shooting and create a desire to upgrade.

Not a bad price, either. That is a great find, Scotty. Wonder how high it will go?

I don't think it will go too high Mike. They seem to sit around 800 or so most of the time. Since I got the Marlin, I haven't looked quite as much, but 700-850 seems to be about the going rate for nice ones.

Were I below the 49th, I would likely be bidding on that one. As it is...

It is a sharp rifle Mike. That Timber model is a nice one.

Good question. With Winchesters, the carbine is the 20 inch barrels and the "Timber" versions are usually 16 inch barrels.

What's different about a Timber Carbine?

I "think" these were a similar rifle to the Guide Rifle Kurt, 18.5" barrel and half tube. Either way, they are slim to hold and shoulder nicely for long folks like us.

The very first lever rifle (and Marlin) I ever owned was a 336ER bought NIB in '85. They have continued to grow in value over the years and a couple of years ago I decided to semi-retire it and got a Marlin .375 (look pretty much exactly the same). Well, that led to a 2nd .375 in January and finally a 2nd 336ER a couple of months ago. That being said, the .444 might be a bit more useful, overall (IMHO). However, the looks of those 336ERs and Marlin .375s is still my favorite style Marlin, with their 20" barrels, pistol grip stocks and 3/4 magazines. The unscoped 336ER in the picture now wears a Leupold 1-4x20.

Nice family photo, indeed. The 336ER was/is a very skookum rifle.

Man, that is a great looking bunch right there! Very nice set of Marlins.
