I am surprised no one has resurrected the Bitteroot Bonded Core Bullets.

What would it take to make these bullets?

Federal has brought them back. They have a polymer tip now as well. I have not seen them as available as components though....

Please don't confuse Jack Carter's bear claw bullets with William Steiger's Bitteroot bullets .......two different bullets and design :)

But both are great bullets

Scotty has been using them a bit in recent years. He managed to get some great help in tracking down some Bitteroots.

Thanks guy
I would like to make this bullet
I need a sample so I can get the internal recipe

I called Mr Steiger in ID and left a message.

Bill has passed away Alaska. No matter as Bill took his recipe to his grave. Neat old fella but paranoid someone would steal his secret sauce.

I've got a decent stash of them and have yet to take an animal with them but they are hands doubt the best looking expanding Bullets I've EVER tested.

BF375 Has used them a lot. Only bonded Bullet I know of that cannot be pushed too fast. Even in dirt and rocks you'd be hard pressed to recover one that's less than 90% weight retention.

That's a shame that he didn't leave his legacy behind but if his wife still has his machinery and some materials a good metallurgist should be able to duplicate the core and jacket material for a price.

I am sad
He answering machine still has Bill on it.

I was sad to hear it as well. I know the fellas that used them on game swore by them. I still don't see many bullets out there that compare in their bonding process and ability to support a wide frontal area.

Pretty sure his wife has passed. Not positive though. I think he has a few sons but I'm not sure of their knowledge of Bill's Bullets.

Both are awesome designs though for large, heavy animals. Find what you can and I think you will like them.

Alaska,

They are hard to find and when you do find them, the owners will not let go of them. We have had a standing order with two individuals for what they have for months now and they just wont sell and we have offered a pretty penny for them. We are not buying them for us, but if we ever get them we will ship them to Scotty. We would love to get them and give them to him for christmas, so maybe I will call and see if either one of them has changed their mind about selling their stash.

Scotty, please correct me if I am wrong, but I think my mom said the closest thing on the market today may be the Northfork, ? We like and use Woodleigh a lot, but that is because we use slow moving bullets in our old caliber rifles. We need to buy some Weatherby rifles or at least a 338 win

Best Regards

Jamila

The Northforks are about the closest I've seen with regards to bonding. Either of them will not let go of much lead.

I just like them a lot since there is some history with them. When you think about when Bill created them it is that much cooler. From all I know and heard from other users Bill only used the best copper and lead in order to make the bullets.

Another cool part of them is the faster you drive them, the better they before, sorta like a Barnes but without the petals shearing off. Most fellas drop back a weight class in order to boost the speed since there is virtually no weight loss there isn't much detriment in the hunting fields.
