My Savage 270wsm is not a shooter like my other savages. From time to time it will drop under 1" groups. It is good enough for a hunting rifle but definitely not a tack driver.

I would like to make a barrel swap to 204 ruger for a varmint rig. Is there a reason to believe that the new barrel and bolt will shoot only so-so also?

Have you look at the stock? Is the current barreled action been run through the paces trying to improve the accuracy?
Action screws tight?
Scope, rings and bases solid? Have you tried using a different scope?

My thought is that it would be easier to maintain the same bolt with the receiver. If you want to go with a 204 Ruger, look for a doner action with the same case size and rebarrel it. I think that rout would be cheaper in the long run.

just neck down your 270 wsm to 204 so you dont have to change the bolt face!

all kidding aside make me jealous and build a 257 wsm!

Yeah, that 257WSM should be a rocking cartridge! Plus, you wouldn't have to worry about someone trying to borrow your ammo at camp! Scotty
