Cartridges you can live without?

what... you mean " you got have this you got have that... "

whenever I hear something marketed I don't hear it covers margin of error.

I guess there's a lot of cartridges I can live with out because I don't have a big enough gun cabinet. And the main reason is the lack of money but I can live with out the wssm line and the rcm cartridges.

It is all about having different toys man.

If you have a 223 rem and a 30-06 or 300 or 375 mag you can do everything is this continent.

Albeit the 10 lbs 375 mag with a 2.5x8 scope will not be the best weapon of choice for Dall sheep but it CAN be done.

It will also not do too well for shooting steel at 1200 yards.

Now if you do not part take in these activities so be it. But many do

When I was young and working while going to college, I got by pretty well owning a shotgun (870) and a 7mm Rem Mag as my only rifle, along a .41 Magnum Blackhawk. I would not want to do it again though!

Now what did I just say? If you have nothing different to add move on.

Hey man, quick question. What are you all about? Just wondering, I have no bone to pick, just wanna ask out in the open. Why is the 30-06 that awesome. I like it alot, but it is no better/worse than a 100 other cartridges. Why come here and keep posting the same thing? Most everyone heard you the first time. I don't imagine you will gather anymore fans by trying to jam your point down others throats. There are a ton of GREAT shooters on this place. Awesome handloaders as well. Add into those threads with experience you had with a 30-06 and how it performed for you. Those are what make valid points to others. It does nothing for anyone when you keep saying, the 30-06 is the best, it is all you need.. Most on here with agree with you on that. But if we all shot only 30-06's, it would be a really boring place.

Again, not casting rocks at you. We just wanna hear about the brown bears, moose, elk and everything else you have taken with the 30-06, the loads you've used, the rifle you use, the optics, ect. Those are what folks like to hear about. My pop's shot everything but his Brown Bear with a 30-06, moose, elk, bear, ect.. Still uses it for everything, but he used my 338 Win Mag for the brown bear. Not because it was necessarily better, but it offered more bullet weight, with additional speed to put more trauma on target. Plus, he shot it as well or better than his old 30-06. After he gave me my 338 back, he has continued to hunt with his 30-06 and loves it, but said if he did it again, he would have bought a 338 for his one big game rifle. Says it thumped pretty well. Means alot to a non rifle looney like us.

good post scotty,

As scotty knows I am a great fan of the 30-06, but it isnt the only rifle I use or enjoy. I have just recently started using the 340 weatherby and it is quickly becoming my favorite rifle. and yet when on horseback I always take the 45/70. But yes I am a great fan of the 30-06.

Scotty--have a great hunt and safe trip, best of luck

why do I push the 06 so hard.....

simple.... because on this site and others folks try and make it look like the 06 doesn't do the job along with the .270, EVEN THOUGH it's been proven.

The beauty part of the whole thing is some people believe it and waste thier money on stuff they don't need. Hey whatever floats your boat buy whatever want...

For example... Fotis tried to make me believe the .243 is inferior to the 6mm rem.... BS

Screw the extra 300 FPS.

As far as me hunting anything but WT.. no I haven't..... but O'Connor has and I believe he did take EVERYTHING on this contenient with an 06 and the .270.

Saying that....it wasn't until I brought out the truth about someone here mentioning "marginal shots" is why these magnums are needed to compensate error... am I missing something like oppritunity in taking game is lacking out west because it harder to hunt these animals?

OK once again the process of comminication is broken down!
you're a fan of the 30-06 and we're fans of the 30-06 and or and a plethora of others also.

I never said one needs the extra 600 fps I get from my 30-378. I said I want it.

So top shoving the 30-06 down our throats. It is beginning to annoy people, at least ME!

Are you from New Jersey by any chance??????????? :x

So why do you care? Their money their retinas their tooth fillings. Damn! :!:

We put too much into the merits of a cartridge, like the 30-06. We aren't talking about technology or a situation where reliability plays a role, like in vehicles, etc. Just because the 30-06 came into play before the 300WSM (or fill in the blank with any other cartridge), and has taken more game, doesn't alone mean that the 30-06 is superior. Ask yourself this, if the 30-06 was a new offering this year, would you buy it, or go with something else?

This is in no way a bash on the 30-06 by me. I like the cartridge a lot and consider it a great choice. I just feel that we need to take a closer look at what is really being said.

Actually, you can get a little more from the 6mm if you hand load and use heavier bullets which can be important if you hunt antelope, not so much with white tails

Jack O conner was also responsible for the 416 Rigby becoming so well known and used in North America. Do you also use that one quite a lot ?

Bell shot 800 elephants with his 7 x 57, but it is not my rifle of choice for elephant.

As far as using magnums simply for allowing someone to make a marginal shot, that they would not make with a non magnum, it is simply not true in my case.

.30-06 / .45-70 / .45 Colt / .22 RF / .410
Somehow I got interupted and never got back to this,,,,, I posted it mistakeningly, proir to finishing.
Anyhow, with the above I wouldn't have a lot of need for much else,,,(currently), even though I have more also. However, there is tomorrow, and a chance where another would be preferable. With that, there isn't many cartridges I could not rationalize having for whatever reason or use.
