I have 2 bricks of CCI #34 primers I've had laying around for a few years and thinking about using them in some range gong shooting ammo. I know they have a harder cup, but are they closer to a CCI standard primer or Magnum primer? I've heard, but can't confirm, they are magnum to better ignite Mil ball powder.

I think they are mag primers from what I knew about them, but like you, can't confirm.
From what I've read most say they are a magnum..I suppose the prudent thing to do is to treat them like a magnum and start low and work up as usual

From the information I’ve ran across, the military won’t allow them to be labeled as “magnum” primers. They do have thicker cups to prevent slam fires with an automatic weapons floating firing pins. They are also designed to ignite ball powders in extreme cold conditions. I’ve used them with very good results lighting belted magnums. They’ve been very accurate and consistent for me as well. Not sure if that’s much of an answer.

yes both the military primers are Magnum primers CCI 41 and CCI 34 and yes they have harder cups for M16 and M14 type weapons…..m249/m240 etc.

I think those primers have expired and would only be good for using in a 50 BMG and only mounted on a tank.

I think you should sell them to me though...
