I've used both in different rifles and with differing loads. Either will serve you well. Each has essentially the same brisance. Each is made to exacting standards. They are essentially identical.
I use the BR-2 primer in several of my smaller caliber rifles. Plus I use the Federal LR Match primers interchangeably with the BR-2's and have never had any issues with loads changing. I also use the Fed 215 Mag Match primers interchangeably with the 215 Mag primers with no issues.
I don't know how much you pay for primers, but locally BR-2s are $52/1000 and Fed 215 Mags. are $35/1000. I have several 1000 of each, purchased in the past when the price was lower  .
Is there an article listing the brisance of each primer?
I ask because I am told the 205 is hotter than the BR4 and I just loaded some 221Rems to see they compare using AA1680 a ball powder.
Federal does state that there is no differance between their regular and match primers except they use they best and most experanced people to make their match primers. Consistancy is they are tring to achieve with their match primers. I can interchange 210 with 210M with not differance except for lot to lot differances. I buy primers per 1K to keep things simple and not too get caught in a shortage.
Calhoon has an article on SRP and LRP regarding cup dementions. The small rifle primers very alot speicaly in cup thicknesses.
The following is a published list of rifle primers (large and small) and their brisiance rating. Primers are rated from top to bottom by brisiance:
Large Rifle Small Rifle
FED 215 FED 205
WLRM REM 7 1/2
CCI 250 WSRM
REM 9 1/2 M WSR
WLR CCI BR4
FED 210 CCI 400
CCI BR2 FED 200
CCI 200 REM 6 1/2
REM 9 1/2
Columns will not align properly, despite efforts on my part to do so, but you get the idea.
I use a lot of BR2 and F210M in my various personal loads. I don't know that they are better than CCI200 or F210, but I was able to secure a good supply at a reasonable price.
Thanks for all of the input. One of the main reasons I like this board so much.
Kodiak: I can get the BR2's for about $43.99/ thousand but the supply is going quickly, so it looks like I will be buying a few tomorrow. I was paying about that if not a little more for the 210M's.
Holy smokes, it only took a short time and now, there are little to no primers locally. That was quick. Now BR2 primers are now $79 per thousand at another retailer.
I've been able to substitute Fed and CCI with no issues or changes in load workup. (I did drop down a few grains and work my way back up, but the sweet spot for powder was the same on both.)
