Closer to the Elk Saturday

Was maybe 20 yards? Couldn't even use my big lens, had to step down to the smaller 75-300 telephoto. He still filled the frame, even at the 75mm length:

He's on private property. My friends called me this morning and said he was actually near their house and to come on over with the camera.

I did.

Photographed from their porch! I know - it would make a better story if I said that I stalked through the snow for miles to get to him. Umm, no... Walked through the house, out to the porch and started clicking the shutter...

I was taught the elk are where you find them.

That bulls a fighter broken and chipped points. He has really good beam length. Hopefully he covered plenty of cows.

Nice photo! I love it when you get close to big game animals even if it from a porch or animals that are use to people. The how doesn't matter much to me especially when I have the camera.
