crimping

I was using a Lee Factory Crimp Die for a while, and stopped using it. I couldn't tell an improvement when I didn't use it, so I figured it was just another thing to mess up.

What are you shooting? I have crimped for my Marlin 45-70 and 44, 357 mag. pistols. Never crimped a bolt rifle round .

A bit of trivia. In the 223 using the lee crimp die. And the 70gr speer i get 2890fps using 25gr of varget. Uncrimped using the 69gr hpbt and 25.5gr varget i get 2774fps. I should crimp some 69gr to test.

It would depend on what you are shooting.
I only crimp 45-70 and 44 Rem Mag, everything else, including the big magnums do not get crimped.

Same here. I crimp the big boomers (heavy bullets in big calibers) both rifle and pistol and of course tube feed rounds. I have crimped some medium calibers in the past like the 300 Wby. with Hornady bullets but it precluded varrying OAL so I quit. There may be a benefit in pressure consistancy and resulting accuracy but I can't prove it at my level of shooting accuracy or inaccuracy (depending on the day)
Good luck
Greg
