Ditch the 22?

I am having some strange thoughts of selling off my 22 LR CZ 452. The shortage on 22 ammo has me afraid to shoot it, although I do have a small stash of 22 LR.

Do you think the 22 ammo will come back like it was before this "shortage: began? Wise decision to send it down the road or hold on to it in hopes 22 starts becoming readily available again?

Hold on to it. 22RF will be back. Even the high dollar stuff is still cheaper than most anything else to shoot. The 452 is a nice gun!

.22 is getting more and more available. I've been buying it anytime I could get a brick for under $30, which I've pretty well been able to do all along, except for the first few months of the shortage.

Don't pay $50+ for a brick! That's a scalper price. Stick 'em with that ammo! :twisted:

But shop around, it's showing up on the shelves at the local gun stores here, at reasonable prices. Not as low as they were in days gone by, but reasonable.

I NEVER stopped shooting my .22's through this consumer-induced shortage.

Switched to .22 shorts for my .22 Marlin 39A (my all-time favorite rifle). Kept on target shooting and teaching with the pair of .22 semi-auto pistols I have. NEVER ran low on ammo. Still have a pretty fair stash, and I'm able to keep adding to it, buying a couple of bricks a month. At reasonable prices.

Hang onto that .22 rifle of yours. It's a keeper, and .22 isn't going to be expensive forever.

Thanks guys. Ill end up keeping it, I just remember when I was able to go into Walmart and pick up a brick for cheap. I have about 2000 hidden away, so I think this weekend I will drag it out and finally shoot it.

I have a CZ 453 and it is the most accurate .22LR that I have ever owned. Even if .22 LR never does get as cheap as before, I will keep this rifle and pass it on to my sons.

Was that a recent purchase Charlie? I can say the same about my LH 452 the most accurate 22 lr I have ever been around.

AJ I'm with the others in suggesting you hang on to it, one day the craziness will end.

I have had the 453 for about a year. I really am impressed by its accuracy and set trigger.

I thought that was a new acquisition, the CZ rimfires are like the Tikka T 3's in that it is very rare that they aren't extremely accurate. The CZ rimfires also have a really solid feel to them since they are a good quality gun which is rare these days.

The CZ's do have a solid design and feel to them. Those are two things that I like about them. They have a solid feel and good workmanship.

Keep it, I agree.
First, it's a CZ. Echoing the others, their rimfires are terrific. (I have two!)
Second, you can find 22 LR if you look. Get on some of the mail order folks notification lists and act fast when they email you.
Just got a bucket of Remingtons at a local store last weekend and a brick at Cabela's yesterday. It'll ease up, it's already starting to here.
You're going to have fun shooting that CZ.

Keep the .22. Everyone needs a good .22. Granted all of our ideas of a good .22 can be a bit different but in the end they serve the same purpose. For most of us a .22 is what taught us how to shoot. No matter how many centerfire guns we shoot sometimes it is just RIGHT to spend some time with a good .22 reliving the basics.

As for me personally, I found Flickertail Gopher heaven this spring. I managed to slip away a half a dozen times for an hour or so each time to get in some much needed trigger time. Shooting Flickertail Gophers out to around 100 yards with a .22 LR sure teaches a person any bad habits they have developed and forces a person to concentrate on trigger squeeze. One local farmer has about 400 less Flickertail Gophers digging holes in his pasture now and it was PURE ENJOYMENT. Besides when it comes to the .22 LR and Flickertail Gophers I am a 61 year old kid that never grew up.

I like to think there is some of THAT KID in all of us from time to time.

On a very short list is a .22 LR is a must in any gun safe. I my self have never been out of ammo since the shortage. I have always had several bricks around. Why would one not have had it, use to be 10.99 a box of 500. My best friend buys Wolf Target .22LR buy the case 5000 rounds. I have not bought any since the shortage at gougers prices. I have recently seen .22LR at Wal-Marts. I believe Manfactures are catching up as Pistol ammo has all ready returned to the shelves.
