E-Tip Reloading

DM,
Myself I would not drift away by any means from the manual. The new 6th Edition donot list anything on E-tips, but I was able to make contact with a nosler Tech adviser conserning the E -tip. I have one small concern would it be better yet more accurate if each shell was the same exact height prior to loading powder and primers then be .005 off length wise. Is what were trying to do is be consistant with everything. I'm sure shell length will help determine how long the bullet will travel within the shell beofre traveling down the barrel. There is no information telling me and anything different.

Pat,

It is always good practise to seek consistency in hand loading. If all the cases are trimmed to the same length, it simply eliminates one variable. The act may not make much difference in accuracy, but it does set a standard by which you can gauge the hand loading process. Also, it certainly does not hurt anything to eliminate case length as a variable.

My thoughts exactly, As a brand spanking new relaoder you have just reconfirm my belief. Now all I wish I had some darn large rifle primers. Can't seem to find them.

Will there be any information concering E-tip reloading data on the web site. since I just bought this book less than a month ago. There isn;'t any data for E-tips concerning 243,270,308,7mm Weatherby.

Got out to the range this morning and did some initial load testing with the E-Tips. Looking promising. Rifle is a M70, and I started at 81grs of RL22 and worked up to 85grs.

How do you get a crimp on these?

I recently read a post from a fella that couldn't get a crimp and got bullet setback from just the recoil on the cartridges that been at the bottom of the mag.

I shoot a lightweight 300WSM that recoils a bit and a 30-06 BAR that I'm sure bangs the bullet nose while chambering.

You could try the Lee rifle crimp die. Works on any bullet even without a crimp groove.

Good start on your load development. I would reshoot 84.0 and then also try 84.3 and 84.6 grs. Pick the best one and than start adjusting your seating depth. You are almost there.

JD338,

Thanks for the help. I am going to try some 7828ssc and see what happens. I hope to get out to the range once the weather gets a bit better. Will post my results.

You might try RL-25, that's what my model 70 likes best for groups in the 180 and above bullets. My brother in law also has a Model 70 300 Wby and his likes RL-25 in the 200 grainers. The recoil of the 7828SSC was way more than the rl-25 and the fps wasn't really any better for the extra recoil. I did get a real good group with 84.5 gr of 7828SSC in the 168 TSX at 3308 fps. It looks like we are going to be stuck with the solid copper bullets in Oregon before too long so I guess I should get ready for them! Good Luck, we are watching!!!
