Those youth-anterless tags are great! There's a very short window of opportunity though. By the time they're old enough to hunt well, they've only got a few years to draw a tag and do the antlerless hunt!

Best of luck to you and your son Scrubs! Going for blacktail?

Guy

Couldn`t agree more about the youth antlerless tags.

Yes, we will be hunting blacktail. I`d like to make a trip to your side of the mountains for mulies, however, with the time constraints of school i don`t think it`s going to happen.

Good luck to you guys too, I look forward to the stories and pic`s.

Much of my plans depend on what I draw. I'm putting in for cow elk in December, deer in Oct., and antelope in Sept. here in Idaho. The reality is the cow elk hunt is the only one I'll have a reasonable chance to draw unless I put in for a extra deer or elk tag too.

So since I didn't get a bear this spring and may not get to go again we will probably bait this fall again. It goes Aug. 30-Oct. 31 but we probably wont bait until the end of Sept.

If I don't draw for elk I'll hunt a depredation style hunt in Aug. and Sept for cow elk.

Deer in the general season is the same Oct. hunt so if I don't draw I'll still hunt deer in Oct.

My buddy and I might make a trip over to WY to bang down some antelope does at long range.

Then there is always bird hunting from Oct. to Jan. Pheasants, quail, chuckar, ducks, and geese as always.

That right there is why I wanna settle in ID when this show is over! So many opportunities for hunting and it isn't too hard to get to most of it either. Thanks for making me just a little more jealous!

Gene, WY is on the top of the list as well. I don't think I will be tied to any one state in particular right now, as long as I can get to an airport to travel, I should be able to live about anywhere I want. I know WY has some excellent elk hunting too. Plus, with you bouncing around, I know I have a built in guide!

I didn't draw my Cow Tag in Colorado as previously stated but found out yesterday another good friend in Colorado wants me to try the leftover tags to see if we can hunt maybe 3rd season.

Got my hopes up anyway, just got to try out the 200 AB in my 300 RUM somehow.

I am so happy for you and I hope you get a 3rd season, that would be so cool.

We're all pulling for you, Don. Best of luck in securing the tag for the 3rd season hunt.

I was kinda down initially about not drawing a tag thinking, okay I'll just stay at home a shoot deer this year until he and I talked yesterday. I just have to see what might be available in leftover tags at this point, maybe even pick up a Buck Tag if available.

Guy, just came back from a weeks vacation in your neck of the woods, (Port Townsend). My son and family live 6 miles out of town. While there we had the opportunity to see a load of blacktail deer, (the ones in town that live on people's lawns, backyards and sidewalks looking for handouts). I was totally amazed that I could approach within 5 feet of them and take pictures. Hurricane Ridge has its fair share of deer also totally unafraid of humans. (too much conditioning) My son took us to Olympic National forest and we had the opportunity to see a large black bear in the middle of one of the dirt roads well within the forest area. He didn't seem to upset at our intrusion and ambled off into the woods after 20 seconds or so. What I do want to say is that hunting in this area requires that you be part mountain goat. I thought Colorado was fun. Washington is plain up and down serious in this area. I can picture me trying to remove an elk (even quartered) from the woods. Good luck this coming season.
