Should have put one on the 25-06 Scotty.

I would have Brian, but that Remington would have needed a hundred of them to make a difference!

So, can we put you down as undecided on the quality of new Remingtons, Scotty?

Yeah, something like that Mike! I do love my M700 CDL 35 Whelen though. I don't own a rifle that shoots better than that rifle, and I have done nothing but adjust the trigger. That rifle was bought in 2006. It looks decent, shoots well and carries really well. Truth be told, I like the weight on the CDL's a little more than Winchester Sporters, but it is a minute difference.

That 25-06 was really nice too. Had very dark walnut and looked really nice. Scotty

Rifles are like women...beware of the really good looking ones! I'm starting to like pedestrian looks more all the time, at least until I see this sexy thing Rod has  .

Yeah, good point Joel. Although, I think my M70's are just as nice looking, as least to my eye. I guess I was just disappointed as the Whelen was so easy to load and shoot for, I was hoping the 25-06 would be the same. Scotty

Now, Scotty, you're going to make me break a rule and buy a Remington at this rate. Maybe this one: http://www.shooterschoice.com/used guns/ur4285.htm.

Mike, if I was starting from scratch, I would do what you did with the Winchester 243 you bought and turned into a 338 Federal. I would just grab a 30-06/270 M70 of your liking and just get it rebarreled. Not sure I would take another chance on a Remington. I did see a used Whelen just like mine at a local gun store to Brian and I. I tried to get Brian to buy it, but he wouldn't budge! Scotty

It was a 35 Whelen and not a 300RUM!

Good point Brian! I knew there had to be something! I think you should just build a 35-300RUM and be done with it. That way you could have the best of both worlds 35 caliber and a RUM! Scotty

Scotty,

It lacks the EGA, but I'm certain that could be corrected.

I agree, I am sure a good smith could get it on there easy enough! Plus, it would probably tighten up the accuracy a little! Scotty

The thought of putting together a .338-06 on an M70 Sporter has crossed my mind more than once!

yep, the 358 wssm is the brainchild of mike milli, or maybe you know him as dtech, its one of his uppers.

I read a bunch about the 358 WSSM on another forum awhile back. I think it was made in order to meet the Indiana 1.6" case length restriction and also have a 358 cal min bullet. Pretty cool cartridge really. I always thought something like that in a short/light bolt gun would be terrific for walking around. I saw a bunch of them based off AR's. I think it was kinda in the 358 Win+ league. Kinda sat squarely between the 358 Win and the 35 Whelen. Scotty
