Well, I woke up at 0400 or so this morning, so since Nolan and his mother were (and, at this point, still are) asleep, I decided to get some stuff accomplished. I grabbed my ADL SS '06. and the McSwirley I got for it, a set of Talley lows, and a Minox Z3, and got busy.

I tried to slide the scope as far forward as I could, as I'm a 6'6" guy with a long neck, and a horrible stock crawler to boot, but I think I may need to move it back just a touch. The power ring on the Minox is pretty soft rubber, so maybe it won't be a problem.

It's very handsome. The scope doesn't look that far forward. How's sight acquisition for you when you throw the rifle to firing position?

Kurt,

That rig looks great! I hope you can get out soon and send a few rounds down the tube.

It's OK, Mike, I just prefer it a little more towards the front of the gun, as I am a bit of a genetic freak. We'll see how I do with it prone. I think I'm gonna drop Nolan off with Grammy tomorrow and drag my dad to the range.

That stock is way too cool. I looked at the mcmillan website and just about any color combo is possible. I have been thinking about something in Plum crazy purple. A guy has to shoot a purple rifle real good though.

I won't tell you how many stocks I have ordered with purple in them, then!

Actually, I don't know. Two for certain, maybe more.

And as a bonus, I now have a spare SPS Tupperware stock that I can do the Edward Van Halen treatment to!

I was thinking about the zebra skin look. The Ted Nugent look for a coyote rifle in .243.

Rifle looks great Kurt! I like that Z3 Minox as well. It is the scope that is going on my 7WSM just as soon as I get home. It is a great piece of glass and it is crystal clear to my eye. I am 6'5" so I know what you mean about stock crawling. I have to mount all of my scopes very far forward and have gone to picatiny rails for just that reason. I am put the rings where I want them and move the scope where I like it to be without issues. Scotty

Very nice looking setup witht he Minox scope and Talley rings. You and Rod must own stock in the company with all the McSwirley stocks you guys have :p .

Did a little work getting the .257 set up. McSwirley installed, Zeiss 4.5-14x44 mounted in Talley LWs.

Kurt, that stock looks AWESOME on your 257 and that scope, well, it is very nice. Great job setting them up. That 257 looks like it going to be awesome! Man, that McSwirley is one of the nicest yet. Scotty

Another handsome rifle that is ready to rumble with some quality gear. Good stuff.

I have a bit of an extended stay at home, so I'm getting some projects started. I've been sitting on some McMillan stocks for what seems like forever.

Glad you are getting some time Kurt. Everybody needs more time with their family and rifles! Scotty

If you need to shove the scope farther forward, which I completely understand, consider either offset rings, or my favorite solution, a picatinny rail mount. Those provide tremendous flexibility in mounting a scope farther forward, or back farther if that's required.

Great looking rifles.

That seems to be the only scope I have trouble with, Guy. I may try a rail, or I may just do a 'Bubba Gone Wild' fix and do an angled grind to get rid of the interference. Talleys are not that expensive.

Gotta love those McSwirley's!

P.S. +1 on Eddie VanHalen to the old stock, except it is nice to have an extra in case anything happens to the McSwirley! Or you could sell it

Not interested myself but the way the economy is right now, I have been turning a lot of my extras and back burner gunsmithing projects into cash money!

Has helped a lot.

Round three. Howa 1500 in 7 WSM. Ran into a bit of trouble with this one... something is binding in the new stock. Floor plate won't sit flush, and the trigger won't break. I'll have to come back to it later... grandma is watching my son so I can sneak off to the range (yea!).
