Getting some stuff taken care of

50% olive / 30% light tan / 20% black on the .257, 50%/50% black & white on the .300

...those 2 have got me droolin' & thinkin' (yes, it hurts) the .325 could use a trip to the "beauty shop"...

Careful, it's a slippery slope! I thought I could just buy two, but soon I had five on order and now I'm making lists of rifles that I could justify putting an aftermarket stock on!

I managed to sneak out to the range today, and took the .204, the .257 Wby, and the '06. I'm just trying to get a general idea of where they are hitting on the target, and with the Weatherby, get it on paper. With the target at 50 yards, the .204 looks as if it may be a shooter:

Things look a bit more like my normal shooting at 100 yards:

The Weatherby looks like it may be more of a challenge (100 yards, Weatherby 100 spitzer FL):

Granted, this is shots 4, 5, and 6 through the barrel. That bad boy heats up fast!

After today, the .204 has 15 rounds down it's bore; the Springfield, 33.

The '06 is kinda hard to tell how it shoots, as I am just shooting up left over reloads I have laying around, just to get it sorta dialed in and to get some rounds down the bore.

Looks great Kurt, anytime on the range or in the woods is much better than being at work! Looking forward to seeing that 257 get tuned up. What a race horse that thing is! Scotty

The .204 is performing well for you. You're on paper with the other two and at the range, so it's not all bad. I always believe that every group is giving me information that will prove valuable eventually.

Kurt - do they still have color combos you don't have yet? You don't want to start duplicating the same stock color :p .

I really liked the model 70 with the 50/50 blk/wht. Looks sweet. I see you put a redfield on the 204, any comments?

Oh heck yeah, I have a list of about 20 mixes yet to go!

The Redfield is a pretty decent scope. Fairly clear, seems to track fairly well. I'll keep it on there for a while, until I get a Leupold or Zeiss.

Round five. Remington 700 ADL synthetic, .270 Winchester. Before:

I bought it used, and it came with these (I assume) Remington-branded Weaver mounts, which I hate:

Glad to see I'm not the only one to booger up screws:

I tried some Talleys on it, but I must be the only short-bus rider who can't make a Conquest work with lows, plus there's that whole genetic mutant/stock crawler thing, so I threw on some Leupy DDs with medium rings I had sitting around. Unfortunately, the rings I had were gloss. Oh well.

Unfortunately, things are still a little close:

Sorry, no Mickey for it yet, still thinking about color mixes, or maybe a camo. Besides, I'm pretty sure this rifle is going to be headed to Brookings for a visit with PacNor, for maybe a .264" tube.

That Zeiss looks good on it. If anything, those SPS's should make awesome donor rifles for build's. I like the thought of a 264 tube on it though. With a nice stock and some other touches, I bet you will have it looking very sharp pretty shortly. Have you thought about going with an EGW, Weaver, or other rail and putting PRW Leupold rings on it. I have kinda gone that way with mine and man, they are strong and very repeatable. Plus, you get alot of adjustment for us long necked beasts. Scotty

Yeah, Scotty, I think I might give a Seekins aluminum rail more of a look. Conquests and Remingtons and I don't seem to be a very good match.

Hey, I bet those Zeiss's would be right at home on a M70 though!!!!! Just messin with you. I do like the rails a bunch. They have been very versatile so far for me. Scotty

My EW .300 WSM is gonna end up with one, in S&K mounts.

It may be close, but it does look impressive seated above that rifle.

Round six: Remington 700 ADL SS, 7mm-08.

It came with a Remington/Bushnell 3-9x in some funky mounts:

I was intending to swap them out eventually, but I wanted to increase the spacing before I took it out this morning, unfortunately, I didn't have the right sized Allen wrench.

I thought I'd give the Michael's Flush Mount cups a try on this one:

I was expecting this to be a 'flame' pattern, where yellow blended into orange blended black, but I guess I FUBAR'd the order. Oh well, I guess I have to order another one. Dang.

Shooting your collection would be interesting. Good looking stock on that rifle, though. (And I don't even appreciate synthetic stocks).

Thanks, Scotty. Dad and I are heading to the range later this morning.

Doc, I like wood stocks as well. I don't see myself changing out any of my existing wood handles for bowling balls, but I generally find that the factory synthetic stocks are not really very high quality. We'll see how I like the B&C on my M70 Extreme Weather.

I sorta have a list in my head of what else I want to pick up rifle wise, and (outside of varmint and tacticool rifles, of course) I can see me picking up only about four more plastic-handled rifles... all Kimber Montanas. I have a line on a .325 I'm going to look at on the way to the range, then after that a .223 and 7-08 in an 84M and a .280 AI in an 84L. Pretty much after that it's gonna be M70 Sporters, Safari Expresses, and Featherweights, and Kimber Classics and Classic selects.

Whoops, forgot I want to pick up a 700 XCR II in .280, to fit a Mickey I already have.

Now if Winchester produces an M70 EW in .375 H&H, all bets are off.

Well, we know how I am with plans...

Those Kimbers are nice too. I think they are the slickest little rifles built. I saw a few nice ones in my travels I wouldnt mind having. Scotty
