going modular

Almost amazing that they can give a Bullpup a good trigger. Most of them have the worst of any rifles you can use. The Steyr AUG and SA80 come to mind. Being able to change your on barrel has my wheels spinning again! The rifle could pay for itself if you shoot lots of P Dogs or paper.

That's an interesting concept. How are those barrels set for headspace? Still a fairly heavy rifle considering the length. What kind of action do they use? Similar to a 700? How do they account for the change in length going from 308 to 338 Lapua in magazine and bolt face or is there two different bolts and magazines? Sorry for all the questions just an interesting concept.
I am not sure how they headspace exactly, I do know I can send a barrel extension and bolt to the Smith and they can build a barrel from there. 308-338 they use the same magazine in the 338 as they do the 308 just blocked in the 308 along with.a.spacer install to keep the bolt throw short. Kind of heavy? Maybe for a hunting rifle but a 12 pound 37" 338 lapua with a 26" barrel doesn't seem that much to me considering my 6.5-284 is 14 pounds without optic.

True in regards to the trigger, I thought the bullpup triggers always sucked until I dry fired my buddies trigger in his hti 50 cal that sealed the deal for me. its going to pay for itself the minute you go.from 338 lapua to a 260 rem and realize you didn't have do buy another gun and optic to do it. also I bought the big Schmidt bender for it so when your using the same scope for different calibers you get to utilize the $3400 optic that much more. I talked to benchmark barrels today and for the price of a barrel extension $260 and their fee of $695 "includes barrel"you
can get a barrel installed in any caliber you want in a month turn around.

Man that is awesome turn around for a barrel. I guess the weight isn't too far off either and only needing one piece of glass for 5 rifles would almost save you enough to buy the rifle itself.

I bought the desert tactical today, first impressions, very nimble, short, and surprisingly light feeling due to the balance of it. the big Schmidt helps balance it almost perfectly. I also ordered a 260 rem conversion for it along with an elite iron Sierra suppressor. Looking forward to shooting it as soon as I get the atlas Bi-pod. for it. I am thinking this is going to work out well. Brian has a pic of it and will post when he gets a chance.

This rig is WAY COOL!!!

That's pretty sweet man! Anxious to hear some more reports after you get some trigger time. What is your impression of the rear monopod? Good enough to ditch the rear bag? Which caliber did you end up getting? 338 Lapua?

I have the 338 lapua barrel that came with it and ordered a 260 rem kit and a elite iron Sierra suppressor,

Interested in seeing this one Jeff. Kinda hard for me to get used to the look of that one, but I'm sure it will still ring steel for you on that nice private range you have!

Thanks Joel, come on out and shoot it ! I am hoping the 300 hybrids will be the ticket for the 2000 yard plate. looking forward to getting the .260 kit "6 weeks out" and playing with it, that will be doing the bulk of the matches. The rifle feels good have been dry firing the crap out of it to get used to it I think I have all the tools to be competitive "except the ability part" and am looking forward to spring.

Jeff, check out N570 with that 300 OTM. My load is 91 grains, cci 250, Lapua brass. It's been shooting really well for me. And that bullet doesn't seem to care much where it's seated. I tested it seated out to the lands and at mag length and the groups were almost identical. I've only stretched mine out to 1230 yards but I'm sure you'll be able to ring the gong at 2K....

I will do that thanks, the desert tactical magazine will fit. 4" overall so I shouldn't have any problems with either. I am loading some 338's for a buddy who has a surgeon remedy and his buddy who has a sako. trg , should be interesting to see how all three do against each other. I post pics when I get them all together.

Here is a couple pictures of the rifle. The first is next to a Rock River National Match rifle and the second is next to the 22X47 Lapua.

A most enviable collection of fascinating rifles. I'm almost afraid to begin down this road.

Nice collection there Jeff. I shoot with a couple of guys at our 1K match with their DT and the rifle are quite accurate. Come to think of it, you can have 1 rifle and 1 scope shooting several caliber. It's no brainer.

By the way, the rifle reminds me of the Steyr AUG that I love to have own at one time before the gun ban politician put it out of reach for some of us.

Thanks Scott, Mike initially it is expensive, but after that you have one scope and one platform shooting whatever you can think of. DF, I have a 260 rem kit ordered for it and a suppressor to fit both. 10k sounds like a pile of money for a system like that but build a 338 lapua and a 260 rem and put a Schmidt on both of them and see where your sitting. I am looking forward to using this at matches.

Jeff, my problem is that I seldom do something halfway. Consequently, it would be whole hog or nothing. I can admire and appreciate what others are doing, however.
