Got Me A Short Tumper

I am going to put a very low power scope on my 350 Rem Mag, using Warne quick detach rings and bases. I want the extra option in case I need open sights or my scope is damaged on a hunting trip. With the short 20" barrel, open sights as well as a low power very short (9.2") and light variable scope (8.5 oz) in a thumper cartridge like the 350 Rem mag; I will have a very fast and quick responding rifle for up close that can get the job done with out me guessing if I have enough gun in a tight space or when having to follow a wounded animal. I am really looking forward to this rifle which will be very handy in the swamps for hog as well as tickets along the Egale river in Arizona. Should be in some time the end of next week. Can't wait, will be fun to develope loads and set up.

........................................What scope are you thinking of putting on that,, (BIG SQUEEZE) infuenced,,, short barreled handy dandy blaster????? Maybe a 1.5x4 or 5x????

Well BigSqueeze, I am not going to do what I usually do and what you think I am going to do. I usually put a very expensive scope on my rifles as you know and that is a Zeiss Conquest or something more. There is this secret out there that a lot of hunters I think over look. A very inexpensive scope that is tough, very clear, tracks great and can take the recoil of a mag. I know, I had one on a 458Win Mag. I am going to put on a Weaver Classic V-Series 1-3x 20mm Dual-X Reticle Matte. I really like this scope for me it is very fast and I don't want more that 4x so the 1-3x will be perfect for what I will use this rifle for. It will only cost me 154.00. Now you know that I come from a class of shooting and hunting in my later years that requires and expects the best. My last two rifle builds combinded counting scopes came to 6,500.00. I know this is strange coming from me, but trust me this is one fine scope for up close and 3x is fine for the longer shot I might at times take with this rifle and cartridge.

...................................I was at least close on the variable! But! Your choice does not surprise me because I am familiar with the Weaver scopes!.......As a matter of fact, I am considering the "Classic Extreme" for the Howa 375 Ruger! I have alot of time to decide because the new info I received from Legacy, is now about August (Japan`s ETA), for delivery to me!. ...............I do like your choice in the Weaver Classic V.

Yea, I think the Weaver will more than serve the purpose.Correction on the cost of the last two rifle builds. My wife reminded me that it was 7,200.00.

You said a mouth full there when it comes to their memories of anything in the past.

A spizer shape like the partitions for the 200gr accuebond would be nice for the 358win / 350rem so it fits any magazine if it be a BLR, Model#7, 700, 77, etc. I am not 100% sure but I don't think the extra sleek shape of the current AB on a 200gr bullet would benifit the 358/350 much and the Whelen/Norma handles the 225gr AB so much better being long action cartridges with more neck lenght as well.

I have a weaver 1-3 on an old model#14 pump in 35rem in works good , but I do prefur the Leupold VXII 1-4 (336D) over it for close cover work its clearer and has more feild of veiw. I think the shot gun version is less expensive too.

.........................................I can`t speak for any clarity difference between the Weaver V3 and the VX2, but according to the specs the 1x3 V3 has a wider FOV than the 1x4 VX2...............The FOV for the V3 is from 30.75' to 87' while the VX2 in the 1x4 is from 28.5' to 75'..........Not a big difference, but still a difference!............In reading posted reviews from other V3 owners on another site, some rave about how the clarity of the V3 even beats their VX2`s and one even said it equaled his Monarch Gold??? Go figure!!!..........

Let us know how she shoots! and post some gun porn too!

...............................................................What scope are you leaning towards getting????????

I have decide on the Weaver 1-3 power. As I traveled this week I looked at the other scopes you and I have discussed and the field of view is to narrow for up close and the up close for sure pucker shots on wounded game. I will post some pictures of the rifle today.
