Picked up my 6 Dasher the other day, Impact Precision single shot custom action, 30 inch Bartlein barrel 7.8 twist 1.250" tapered to 1.150", Jewel trigger set to 4 ounce trigger break, pillar bedded, McMillian A5 stock from my prior 6 BR topped with an ATACR 7-35 x 56mm. I had a Rem 700 and a 26 inch Bartlein barrel in 6 BR to shoot 600 yard matches, barrel was shot out. The 6 Dasher will out wind the 6 BR by 200 fps at least and stretch out to 1000 yards. That is a step up and helps with wind chasing. I should be seeing 2950 to 3000 fps, but most shooters swears by the 2950 fps range.
200 pieces of Alpha brass and a 6 Dasher modified case still in transit, just got my Short Action Customs die set, headspace body and .243 insert, the dies are sweet little things. Full size bushing die, it is free floating, comes with a decapping pin, collet, bushing, shims, and carbide mandrels which is sold separately. To adjust bump, three ways, either screw in the die old style, use a shellholder set to adjust headspace or use shims inside the die in .001" increments. Just unscrew the cap, and remove the spindle, collet, and tapered adapter, and place the shims between the bushing and tapered adapter and put it back together. The bushing has two features, it acts as a headspace and a neck sizer. That is neat, and it sizes all the way down to the shoulder to smooth out any doughnuts and sizes the headspace as well. I removed the decapping pin because I use a decapping die to knock out primers after each firing before I anneal, so I swapped it with a .2425" mandrel which sizes the fired case and mandrel opens the neck at the same time in one step instead of doing the mandrel size as a 2nd step, it takes more time doing a 2nd step. I like very low neck tension, but I can buy different mandrel sizes.
As for the seater, its a cool seating die, it comes with 4 different cups for different types of bullets and topped with a Mitutoyo micrometer. Played around with the dies last night to get the hang of how it works, and I cannot size anything yet without brass and the modified case to get my ogive in my chamber to adjust OAL height. The SAC headspace body and insert is nice, the insert is a .243" and checks your headspace, it contacts the entire shoulder and makes a measurement instead of only at one point on the shoulder that a Hornady headspace gauge will do. My Hornady Lock and Load and headspace gauge works very well for me for my other rifles, but this rig is one step up, just strictly competition and I like the best available components. Hopefully get started soon with some measuring and load works ups using virgin Alpha brass and find a sweet load to fireform at my next 600 yard match. Can't wait.
