Today was my first visit to Green Top Sporting Goods in Ashland VA.. Well stocked locally owned store founded in 1947. Very helpful and friendly staff.. Great powder inventory. Highly recommend it to anyone in traveling distance.

I used to live in Gaston NC and every time I would go up to Richmond for something I would go on up to Green Top and pick up reloading supplies and drool over all the firearms they had. They had more used guns than 2 or 3 gun stores had new ones.

It's my favorite store in my area. They always seem to pry some money from my wallet!

it has been 20 years since I have been there. I always like that store. It is a great place.Lee

It's moved now Lee. It's in the same spot where the Gander Mountain used to be. Nice store and one of the only in the area that really stocks a great selection of optics, rifles, shotguns and reloading supplies. They got hit pretty hard on reloading supplies but they seem to be bouncing back fairly well. Always a fair selection of Nosler on the shelf too.

Sounds like a blessing to have for those in the area.

How far off I-95 is it ? I drive up that way from time to time, I need a break aorund there.

It is less than a mile. Headed South on I95, it is the next exit from Bass Pro Shop. You can see the sign for GreenTop from I95, but it would be too late to get off at that point.

I always liked used gun stores. New guns are nice of course but it stirs the juices to see some of the old stuff in stock. I used to buy a lot more used than new guns.

I've got to tell you, I love Green Top Sporting Goods. I ate PB and J for the inauguration and managed to squirrel away some money on that trip. On the way back to the Creek, I stopped in with the boys to see the store for my first time. Wouldn't you know it, there was a pre-64 transition era Super Grade in 30-06 for a steal that looked like it had been refinished by someone who knew what they were doing. I called the wife about 20 times to ask for permission, but had no luck getting through. The boys were getting restless to get on home, so I made the executive decision to put what I made on the trip towards a down payment on that rifle. Two months later, and after a lot of apologizing, I took her home. I had a new Decelerator pad installed, loaded up some 180 ABs for her, and, wouldn't you know it, was rewarded with 3/4" groups!
Later, after returning from Iraq, I took her to the ranch that my nephew worked on and took a nice big elk calf with her. Boy did I screw that up. After getting a taste of that calf, the wife didn't want me shooting anything over a year old.
Those were nice folks at that store and they sure did me right on that rifle. I guess you could call me a loyal Green Top customer for life!

Great story Joe.... I'm guilty of a few impulse purchases from GT myself!
