H4350 doggone it!

I was in the Scheels in Eau Claire, WI a week ago and they had H4350 in 8# and our local Ace Hardware has it in 1#, so it is out there.

That has to be satisfying for you! Excellent riflery. Fine load work.

I found R17 was a good replacement for H4350 in a number of different cartridges.
I've used it as a replacement for my PRS Comp 260 Rem. gun when I ran out of H4350, although when the temp/ammo heats up so does the velocity!

I did manage to find the last (2) 1 lb. bottles of H4350 yesterday at my LGS! Must have come in over the long weekend since I was there on Friday and not available....... didn't last long!

IMR 4451 and RL16 are both temperature insensitive. From the testing I've seen RL16 has just as good or better temperature insensitivity than H4350 with greater velocities. I have moved on to RL26 with the 147g ELD-M which is a slower burning powder giving my 24" 2812 fps with no pressure signs.

I picked up another 2 lbs. of H4350 at my LGS, same lot # too! (y) They must be on to me, only putting out 2 bottles at a time each day!

Plus they were super nice to allow me to return the #1000 ct. box of Rem 9 1/2 primers I bought from them that had 2 duds out of the first 32 I used. Sorry but Remington needs to get their act together, I walked away from using them 20 years ago, and now again...... that's unacceptable!

I've been picking up a few bottles every few days from my LGS this past week so you may still be in luck looking for it. I've now got 7 lbs. on hand and all the same lot # after not seeing it for a year.

Guy!

So I went to check on the situation over at my LGS and ended up running into the owner. He said he had bought 900 pounds of H4350, he didn't say how much he had left, but they're only putting a few 1 lb. bottles out on the shelves along with a note: (1 pound per day per customer). I noticed they were a slightly different lot then what I had been picking up every few days apart so I bought a 8 lb. jug just in case..... lol. I should have bought a jug of VarGet instead since I'll use that in the .223 and 6.5x47 which I have way less of come to think of it......... after I walked out of there!

Ya, I scored an 8# jug of H4350, and another 8# jug of Varget.

Am pretty much good to go for my rifle loading needs for a while. :)

My LGS just got in 5 cases of the 1 lb bottles. You can have all you want for 30.55 each.

Try H414 or W760. IMHO, the temp sensitivity thing is a bit overblown unless you're trying to make first round hits at 1000 yards. If you know how to shoot, and you do, these powders will fill the role of H4350 for most applications with fine accuracy and have been readily available through even the worst shortages.

Between Guy and I we have enough to last us well through our retirement! lol I'd don't know about you buddy, but I was having a tough time reading the ends of the ammo boxes, and what's in them yesterday! Good thing I still have my LR vision out to a mile!

Oh, I figure to go through all or most of the Varget, and much of the H4350 within a year...

1200 rounds of .308 will pretty much eat up 8 pounds of Varget.
