Have you used the 155 Comp for hunting?

I am curious, has anybody used the .308 155 gr Nosler Custom Competition HPBT bullet to shoot any game like deer with it. It shoots really well for me and it has a J4 jacket like the Berger bullets and I was wondering how it reacts on game. I have used 150 and 168 gr Sierra Match Kings with pretty good results on deer and a friend of mine, USMC retired, will attest to the 168 Sierra MK working really well in combat for one shot stops at loooooooooog range. Just wondering about the Nosler.

1shot, I have loaded some 168c.c. for my buddy who hunts with them for Axis deer. He swears by them. Ons shot, one deer. I would think the 155's would be the same.

1Shot, shoot some into jugs and see what they do. That would give me a little intel as to how they will work out I think. Hard to guess at their performance till you have a couple recovered bullets. Heck, just about any decent bullet will kill deer anyhow. Scotty

I am sure they would work but they are target bullets and are not recommended for hunting.

1shot, I don't use them because the exit hole is usually very large with a lot of meat damage. My buddy loves them and wants me to load only them. To each is own I guess.

Thanks Russ: That is what I expected from the J4 jacket bullets. The Berger 155 VLD that I shot one deer with out of my 30X47 HBR rifle at 2650 fps at 111 yards had a baseball size exit hole in the hide and on the inside the exit wound was a mush size hole the size of a softball. Vitals were liquid but the deer ran 50 yards after taking that shot though both shoulders broadside. Some deer just don't want to go down.

I've shot a few coyotes with them. They act almost exactly like a Vmax. They will certainly kill a deer but I think it'd be messy. Stick with hunting bullets, the deer will never know the difference on 1/2 MOA.
