Help with loads for 6.5x55

Sounds great Gerry thanks for sharing that I am sure we will come up with something that will work! Actually seams
Like some coyotes have moved into the area! So hopefully
We may have some photos soon.

We are now top heavy with 123gr bullets as I now have 2 boxes of the SSTs and 300 Nosler Custom Competitions!
So am hoping they shoot to the same point od impact so zi can play with the CC and hunt with SSTs, time will tell if it was a good choice or not ?????

Along with the bore being larger in a 7mm vs a 6.5 allowing more room to push on the base of a bullet.

Everything being the same the 338-06 will hit higher pressures than a 35 Whelen using the same bullet weight. Again, more bullet to push on and larger bore for gas expansion in a larger bore.

Here is a decent reference just for grins.

Cartridge : 6.5 x 55 Swedish
Bullet : .264, 140, Nosler AccuBond 57873
Useable Case Capaci: 51.828 grain H2O = 3.365 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.150 inch = 80.00 mm
Barrel Length : 22.0 inch = 558.8 mm
Powder : Hodgdon H4350

Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,
incremented in steps of 1.087% of nominal charge.

H4350 is a pretty decent powder in both but honestly, for optimum performance I'd actually use something like RL17 for the 7-08 and RL26 for the 6.5 Swede to get the most most speed from either. But they are really both in the same ballpark for the most part. I'd bet most barrels and chambers will make a bigger difference in those two than the couple of grains of capacity. Just my opinion though. Got a ton of loading with the 7mm Mauser and Swede, but fairly little really for the 7-08.
Older thread but I was doing some research on the Swede for my Ruger RSI Carbine that only has a 18.5” bbl. and since H4350 had always worked so well in my 260’s I thought why not try it!?!

I shot it yesterday with 120 Scenar’s and it topped out, or should I say I stopped at 45.0 when I got to 2,678 FPS. (Subtracting for bbl length at 30 FPS/inch is roughly 135-165 23”-24” test barrels).

Today I went with the 140 SMK’s since I’m only FF brass with what I would have assumed to be mild loads, but definitely not using 45.0 grains of the H4350 I have on hand! Primer had a lite creator around the edges. I could tell it would have shot well since Kenny always told me that’s what he wants to see….. But no, the case wouldn’t go back into my loading block! It’s meant for .473” cases and since the Swede is slightly bigger it’ll work, and has right up until that case got stretched!

Scotty, I would have thought that the Lapua 6.5x55 Mauser brass case heads would have been bigger, i e .4803” vs .4770” like what I have? Everyone has a slightly different size of case head listed in their reloading manual!

Any suggestions as to what the dimensions are supposed to actually be for brass? I always thought it was .4800”.
