I bought a new Henry Long Ranger in 243.

I have been trying find a load that will make my 90 grain Nosler Accubonds group.

I have both IMR 4350 and I just bought some H4350 yesterday.

I have tried 38.5 grns and 43 grains and I can’t get a group less than 4”.

I bought some factory Winchester 100 grainers and they group fine and I bought some 90 grain Hornady because I was getting frustrated trying to get a load that would group.

Going to try the Hornady today to see if it just likes the 100 over the 90’s.

I thought I might load some 39-39.5-40-40.5 and so on up to 42.5 just fine the sweet spot but I have shot 60 friggin rounds so far just to try to see if it was me or the rifle.

Very frustrated.

Thanks Jer

You’re using a good bullet. I haven’t had any problems with a few bolt guns and this bullet. I haven’t used 4350 in my 243s.
If you measure the Winchester ammo can you get close to the “jump” with the 90gn?

I wouldn’t be scared to bring them to .100 from the lands and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them tighten up.
So I just measured some factory rounds to try mine at so I am seated at 2.65.

Your saying I should go to max length minus .1?

Thanks Jer

Thanks and I did that.

Was going to try the Hornady 90 grain factory today just to see if they fly good first

I bought the H4350 because it was touted as a great powder for the 243.

Let me test some more with it before I switch.

Thanks Jer
4350 is considered to be the go-to powder for the 243, so you were right to start there. And, it may not be the powder that's the problem. Your rifle might not like the Accubonds, regardless of powder. Try some other bullets instead.

What then I want to shoot deer

I did my research and I wanted the partitions but couldn’t find them.

I just found some 100 grainers but was told my 1-10 twist wouldn’t stabilize them.

Man I am loving my recurve bow and my 45-70 more and more now that I have tried to get this thing to shoot something well.

I will persevere though and figure it out.

I bought some 55 grain varmagedons too for varmits. Just wondering how that’s gonna go

What grain partitions are you looking for ?

Your 1:10 should stabilize anything up to about 100gr. My bolt gun (Marlin XS7) has the same twist, and I shoot the 95gr BT and 100gr Sierra GK quite well. As for deer,

This one was with the 95gr BT:

This one was with the 85gr Sierra GKHP:

I've killed them with the 100gr Sierra GK, as well. There are lots of choices besides the Accubonds for deer.

So this is what I bought to try. Thought I would be able to get a sense of what it liked.
I have shot the
100 federal sand they group nice
95 grain Winchester xp… not so good
80 grain Winchester no so great

Going to take out the 100 and 90 and 80 and shoot 3 each at 100 yards now and take pics of each

Wish me luck

Jer

I am not stuck on any brand or weight from 85-100… just want something that groups well.

I don’t shoot much past 100 yards here anyway but last night they weren’t grouping good at 200

Maybe it’s just me

I always got well under MOA using IMR4350 with 95 and 100 gr bullets. Take a look at IMR4831 as well as IMR4064.
