Hunting Season Workout

Bill,

I pray God's mercy, with thanksgiving for competent surgeons to repair the damage we inflict on our bodies. Get well quickly and tag a few more elk.

Thanks for the kind words. We will get through it just fine. !!!!! I have a wonderful wife that will take great care of me, and I will be ready to work and ready to hunt. Can't ask for much more than that.

I will pray for your health and rapid recovery, Vince. I am sure that you will get the Doctor lecture that I got when my stent was put in nearly 10 years ago. Make some life style changes, per the doctor and stay healthy.

Hope you heal fully and quickly, Bill!

And just in case, should I send my Kelty kid carrier (I do have a nice one) to Scotty for appropriate retrofitting?

Bill, watch those knees, they will hurt you when you get older! Get some rehab if you can it helped me through a spiral fractured knee on a dirk bike. Get well soon otherwise and I hope you don't need surgery.

Charlie, the doc, said the knees were in great shape for my age. The quadriceps are what failed. I am going to attempt to be more "ware full" of my body in the future. Well at least through most of this year!!!!!!

One thing is sure, that where your body fails is where it wants to, Bill. Mine is failing in places which I never considered, not places where I expected it to.

I can relate to this right about now.

Itching to get on the treadmill but I'm being a good boy and waiting until my Cardiologist clears me to do so. Not 100% yet, resting more than usual, but doing a lot better than I was. I just have to wait and find out what he, the Cardiologist, wants to do about my left sided heart blockage. He did clear me to go back to work with no restrictions next week however and is aware that having to run, maybe fight someone, and be in high adrenaline situations, is all part of my job.

Bill, I may not be able to pack you with Scotty's Kid Carrier but I'm sure we could convince him to come along and maybe pack us both. I promise to help by leaving the bricks out of my pack.

OK, went and saw the heart doctor today.
Next up is a stress test and depending on the results of that maybe more stents. He did clear me to go javalina hunting today so I went for a light jaunt up and down the hills with my pistola in search of stink pig to no avail.
Good Lord it sure felt good to get out. I took it easy and just walked a nice slow pace and didn't over exert myself and took plenty of glassing breaks but I covered about three miles this afternoon. Two months ago I could've covered the distance and terrain in half the time but I'll take what I can get. :) I did cut some stink pig sign but it was old and no smells indicating I was in their AO. Oh well, work this weekend and then I'll try to head out Monday in search of them again.
I'm just thankful the Lord is letting me have some more time in wild country before he calls me home.

Vince, one thing about getting older and slower is that you begin to understand the old steer, to young steer joke about "let's walk and get them all!"

So Vince I've been keeping track of your progress and was very pleased to read how you're moving better and feeling better. My lovely bride was getting a little irritated with me and asked what I was reading, so I filled her in. She was surprised how pleased I was at your success and I didn't know you from Adam.a little while later she snapped a picture of me while I was looking for my favorite Saturday t shirt. What the heck I asked as she turned her back and walked off. Moments later my shorthair was eating bacon and eggs and in their place was some yogurt and high grain cereal resembling horse feed. On the table was a picture of me from a couple of years ago. Remember that? She asked. You were strutting around like a bald peacock because you out ran some of the young guys. I laughed Hell yes I'm twice the age of some of those guys. Pointing she said those are abs and then with a heavy clunk she dropped her iPad on the table. That, says she is not an ab. Boom as my running shoes got dropped on the floor. Take the dogs for a run and pointing to the horse feed, then you get breakfast.
Thanks buddy I'll let you know how it goes for me. You've been an inspiration now I must follow your lead.

Salmonchaser,

I am humbled that I could be an inspiration.
It is I that gathers inspiration from you all.

Started back on the weights last night.
I can't believe how much strength I've lost. It's going to be a long road but I'll get there. Just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Yes Vince I hit the weights with Cardio 5 days a week and for about the last month they advised that my standing heart rate is gained about 10 beats.
The trainer at the cardiac rehab advised me they believe I have over training syndrome. I guess if you do not let your muscles heal before working out again the heart pumps more blood to the muscles to heal them therefore working harder :?: go figure. I went from a couch potato 2 years ago & weighing a lunch under 300lbs, I now weigh 200lbs and I am being told I have to change the way I work out.
Well I am now doing a split with my days off and quit caffeine coffee completely and my standing heart this week has been down to around 72 :).
Keep up the training Vince slow and steady my friend!!!

Blessings,
Dan

Been using a major remodel as my excuse not to work out for the last month. Drove the last nail today. Tomorrow I'll take the girls ( Molly and Harley 13 month old GSP) on a run. Ok they'll run about 10 I'll get in a couple. The boss had some friends over to show off the addition. I complained about being tired, too tired to run the dogs. She reminded me how, 25 years ago when I was a logger, I would go to the gym after a day in the woods to stay in shape. What the Hell happened?

Glad you're back on it Vince, you once again motivated me.

Taking tonight off.
Did two nights in the gym back to back. I'll do two on, one off, two on, two off for a bit focusing on the legs and then I'll start incorporating an all around and upper body workout.

OK, back from work and hit the gym on my way out after shift.
Focused on my thighs tonight and tomorrow will be the quads. I'll plan to hit the treadmill with my pack on Monday. I hate working out but I see what it does for me and what it helps me to accomplish. That's why I do it.
I will be strong again!

Vince
