Hunting Season Workout

Stay active - whatever workout you choose. Mix it up a little maybe...

34 degrees here right now, and am headed out the door in 15 - 20 minutes for a 25+ mile bike ride with my bicycle buddies. I'm the last holdout, still wearing shorts! Everyone else went to long pants for their cycling about a month ago. They ask me when I'm going to change, and I tell them "When it gets cold."

Snow on the mountains around town now... It will be cross-country ski season soon, then the bike will get less use as long as there is decent snow to be skied locally.

Stay at it all! Oooorah!

Hmmm. Might have had one too many cups of coffee already today...

Did another gym workout, legs, after shift. Then I came home and planked. Right now the planking is easy but I can see where it will get a lot harder as the time accumulates.

Excellent. I need to get back into those plank/core exercises. Been neglecting that a bit of late.

Edited 11/20 - was 28 degrees this morning. Rode with my bicycle buddies, roughly 12 miles. I need to think about switching to long riding pants instead of my shorts...

This week is looking like a 2 on 1 off 2 on 2 off workout schedule.
Last week got mucked up due to working a double. I'll just keep plugging away and I'm starting to add a few more exercises to help keep things balanced. I'm bound and determined to not let my legs be the cause of my hunting demise and last year was a big incentive to get in shape and stay in shape.
Heck, I had to run to two fights this week and while I hurt afterwards I wasn't hurting nearly as bad as I usually do. There just may be something to this gym thing.

I had a major setback yesterday. Was clamming and my left knee gave way while trotting across the beach. The right immediately, after a ride in the red bus with the flashing lights, and some pain killers, steroids, and muscle relaxers I was back home. Iam able to move around but very limited. I am probably in for some long rehab. Iam betting muscle and tendon damage, at least.

Man, I hate to hear that, Bill. I'm grateful, though less so than you, I imagine, that you were able to get to hospital before more damage. I'm pulling for you to heal quickly.

Man, take it easy on those old legs buddy! Hope you get some good rest and take care of the legs and knee's, they are all you have.

I'm sorry to hear that Bill.
I wish you a speedy and painless recovery.

Doggone it Bill.

You'll come around. Injuries come up now and again. We just have to be smart & determined to come back from them.

All the best, Guy

Thank you all, I am still housebound. Have still not been able to see a doctor, other than the emergency room doctor. He was worthless other than getting me stabilized, now I need a diagnosis and treatment plan. Can't clam, can't hunt, both knees very weak. I want to try stairs but my minder (wife) has her eye on me every minute. I am ready to start moving . I am sure there will be no hunting at all this season.

Ouch! Your lady is correct, though. Until you have a diagnosis, it would jeopardise future activity to reinjure or aggravate the existing injury. I do pray for your healing, and soon.

Man, I am hoping you get yourself healed. Now it is time to find one of them "easy" elk units everyone tells us about!

Might have to look at fabbing up a senior carrying pack for you!

You could modify and reinforce a Kelty Kid Carrier to pack him around.

Well, I guess he doesn't weigh too much more than a couple of elk quarters! Might be able to lash him to a freighter frame!

I love the kindness and support I get from all here. Thanks. First doctors appointment tomorrow then, MRI. And then who knows

Please keep us posted on how things progress.
I'm praying for a recovery that leaves you unimpeded.

Several of you asked for an update, on my injury last month.
We went to the orthopedic surgeon today. Both my left and right quadriceps are torn, left is worse than the right. He scheduled surgery for next Tuesday, in the morning. So my Christmas present this year will be two working legs. Full recovery is estimated at 5 months.
Two lessons from this, when in the outdoors never let your guard down. My injury was on flat, smooth hard beach sand.
#2 Based on my limited experience Clamming on a "flat beach" is a lot more dangerous than hunting up to 10,000 feet.
Just my .02
