I hang my head in shame...

Tom is smoking! That is the kinda attitude we need to encourage around here!

Stand down, Marine. The poor bloke is beginning to simmer.

it's not quite that much momentum

Denial is one of the first and most certain symptoms of addiction, Tom.

Mike the good news here is that I nothing on my "wish list" for a hunting rifle just now, so I have no worries. And my "disposable income" has now been disposed of, so I'm safe for a bit.

;)

Once I get my flintlock project done, I'll be thinking about making a rifle into a Whelen, but I also want to get back to my military surplus collecting, too.

All worthy goals, Tom. So many rifles; so little time. It is a handsome rifle you acquired.

The Whelen was named after COLONEL Townsend WHELEN.. That is a military rifle and the 35 Whelen combined.. Seems like you could knock out two birds with one stone. Plus, it would be a bolt action, pretty similar to the Springfields.. Heck, you probably couldn't tell them apart!

See, I am just trying to save you some money Tom.. It is the way to pull off a two'fer!

LOL, sure is.

I'm real close on my more attainable military collection goals. I need to complete my AR upper into a full A2 service rifle, and I want an M14-clone of some sort. That gets me all cartridge guns of major issue in the US except for a Trapdoor Springfield. Civil War muskets and prior get tricky, not sure I want to go there.

But Scotty makes a semi-compelling point that the Whelen is "military surplus".... .lol

No one says it has to make sense to anybody but us Tom!

Now your using my words disposable income and investment. You do have RADD Tom. In my case in point my new 22-250. If I were to go to a dealer and buy one $725 I got my whole setup for $600 never fired. That's an investment knowing if I get in a pinch I can sell the setup for more than I paid for it since the feller I got it from didn't know what he had.

I don't think I ever disputed my RADD status, lol. But I am relatively safe for a while. Rifle-related stuff is still on the radar, but not any rifles for a while. I think the next two things I'll be most interested in are a stock for the 300H&H and possibly a scope for the "new" 30-06. I really was hoping to get to the range last night, but a line of thunderstorms put an end to that thought. Now it will have to wait till tomorrow or Wed.

Tom, I am glad you came to your senses on this matter.

My 70's can now once again breath a sigh of relief that their brother in arms was saved....
