I might have screwed up!

I placed an order to get in on a group buy over on 24hr for this rifle.

Specs are:

- Montana Rifle Company Extreme X2 (stainless/synthetic)
- 243 Winchester
- 22" barrel, #2 MRC Contour
- 1 in 8" twist (stamped on barrel)
- MRC X2 standard gray stock
- 20 right hand rifles, 5 left hand rifles
- $1075.99 (plus shipping to your FFL)

I'd been putting together parts to build an 8 twist .243 on a CM M700 short action. I have the donor and the Alaskan TI stock and was looking hard at different barrel makers for the right contour. I think I just saved a lot of money, but really not ready for this rifle in the next couple of months. Guess I might have to open the safe and sell off a couple queens to pay for my new rifle.

Those are a very nice set up, saw those over there as well the 260 Rem they did would have been sweet as well.

First one is a NOS Rem M700 ADL .243 Win (has J-Lock & open sights) and have NIB B&C Mountain rifle stock gray with black web $650 plus shipping for both. This was my donor rifle and future stock for it. No need for it but it is just a rebore away from a .338 Fed or .358 Win if no one buys it! :grin:

Looked in the box it's a Mountain rifle stock not the Alaskan TI stock. Here is the info on the stock.

2950/51 ADL Mountain Rifle Models -

- lightest stock Bell & Carlson makes, but
- plan on spending some time getting it on right

Have seen some impressive targets posted on the 'fire from the MRC rifles.

Same here Howard. I like them a lot. I believe if I get another 300, it'll likely be a MRC. All that I have seen have been well finished and no one has presented a turd yet. Plus, they retain the old Model 70 style trigger along with some other nice features. They are making their own synthetics now as well. A little leaner than the old B&C Medalists.

I have heard good things about the Montana rifles we don't see alot around here.
I have had my CDL for sale for about a year but still have not advertised it as I know someone will buy it :mrgreen:!

The way I understood things B&C still made the stock, but Montana Rifle Co owns the mould. I could be wrong though, it has been known to happen a time or two. It's a little heavier than what I hoped to build, but the trigger and the larger magazine are a bonus. Especially when I was looking to invest in a new trigger and Wyatt's magazine box for my M700.

Your probably right Taylor. I just knew it was slimmed down and the pistol grip seems more open. Either way it is a lot of rifle for the money.

I'm not really salaried, I'm guaranteed to make so much every two weeks. I can make more than guarantee if the work is there, but we've suffered a slow down since early June. Luckily I'm not furloughed like some of my coworkers.

With it getting close to Fall I'm sure you can sell it locally, or run it on Gunbroker. Sweetening the pot with the synthetic stock will help too. Hey, I only have a few special rifles that I would never trade or sell...the rest all came to me via trading/buying/selling,etc. ha. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff anyhow, sell off some "stuff" ( you know, the "stuff" you didn't come into this life with?) and buy some different stuff! I do it all the time and enjoy myself along the way. Summertime is always a slow time for me as a Pastor, what with people on vacation, camping/fishing, etc. I just trust the Lord and take one day at a time, I haven't missed a meal/mortgage payment/car note/etc in the past 28 yrs doing this!

What made you settle on the .243 if you don't mind me asking? It certainly is a good one, I'm just curious.

I had a long range .243 that I was shooting Berger 105 and 115 grain bullets in that I sold because it weighed over 12 lbs with scope and bipod. I always had plans to build another with a twist fast enough to run 105's again, but light enough to take hunting if I wanted to. The .243 with the right twist barrel will run all day with the .260 Rem for long range work, and I have a far easier time locating reloading components and factory ammunition if needed.

The .243 is nice I had a M700 Varmint special with the Factory Bull barrel and it wouldn't shoot to suit me so I sold it and built my 257 Roberts. Could have been a bum factory barrel rifle was new made in the 1980's. A friend has one just like it and it shoots good.
If I was looking for a .24 caliber I would look hard at a 6mm Remington and have it punched out to Ackely Imp.

6mm Rem has never crossed my mind, brass isn't always easy to find to reload. I've tried a few AI's and for the most part they're over rated if you're looking for much improvement in the velocity department. When you're done with the brass prep the AI cartridges are pretty nice, but that is about the only advantage I've seen with most AI chambers.

This is how my old .243 shot Bergers at 300 yards and I'm hoping my new lighter rifle will come close. The 105's were usually about 300 fps faster with the same BC as the 115 grain bullets. Should make for some wind cutting ability way out there!

Nice shooting Taylorce1. I saw where Lohman Arms in Houston TX has 6mm Rem brass available in quantities for 50 pieces to 2000 pieces in both Win and Rem if any one is looking for it. As far as the added velocity add by the AI case I think that is just an extra benefit but there are other things that the AI does that really makes it shine and is miss understood in the ever pressing desire for more speed. :mrgreen:
