I've got the 300 WM dialed in

I took a drive to the range today and was pleasantly surprised.

I'm using 70.5 gr of H4831SC under a 200 gr PT, with CCI 250's and Winchester Brass. I have to it magazine length and was using a bullet comparator.

Interestingly enough, the group measured (when I got home, sorry no pic) at 1.019"

I am not including the very top shot in that group for the simple fact that it was my first shot and something I found interesting was that it was actually at 2.885" where the other 4 are 2.889",2.888", 2.889" and 2.887" (all measured to the Ogive). I remember early last year messing with lengths and such with the comparator and noticing that it doesn't take much for a bullet to stray if it is not within the measurement range of the majority of bullets in that string.

There are 5 shots in total. The top of the triangle group if you will, has 2 shots inside.

I haven't chronoed this load yet, but the book shows it at 2910 fps. I feel pretty confident this will perform when put to the test this hunting season.

Good shooting. Keep working with the COL and you should be golden soon.

I believe you are well on your way to a very good load. The OAL will come and then it will tighten up nicely.
Thank you for the post and photos.

Blessings,
Dan

I use that exact load. I think Nosler nailed it in their latest manual (which lists that as most accurate). It does great in my Ruger M77. I have to load to 3.340" due to magazine, but it does awesome!

Looks like you have an awesome load there.. I stick to the 30-06 with 180gr Noslers.. Thanks for the tip on checking base to ogive for consistency. I sill start using a sharpie pen on the case to identify any variances from a norm to see if that helps tighten up my groups.

Have you used the chronograph on yours? Just curious if it is getting near the book velocities.

No, I have a bad habbet of shooting my chrono's (gone through 2 so far  ). I just got a new one, but haven't measured this load.

Hahaha! You just reminded me of this jerk that belongs to our Rod and Gun club. He is the local know-it-all, who likes to force his "knowledge" on everyone else.

He borrowed a friends chrony, and shot off on of the support arms. He has yet to even attempt to pay for the part.

Well, if you get it chrono'ed before I can, let me know what your getting just for curiosity sake.

And I just managed to get some more H4831SC yesterday... though I should scoop some up before the eventual shortage...

I wouldn't tell this to the "Jerk"... but I use 5/16" brazing rods as replacement chrony arms and actually prefer them over the OEM jointed ones.. Very cheap replacements...
