Joined the 1K club today!

You were probably seeing the vapor trail close to the bullet. Seeing a bullet going that fast is pretty hard.
Oh yeah, you can see a bullet flying. The sun has to be in the right angle. I can see an 87 grain V-Max glide into the target at 600 yards. I was shooting late in the afternoon and the sun was just above the horizon just before sunset. You're not going to have that problem with a 300 grain.

Good shooting shoots_5.

Boy you aren't joking! 1.42 feels like you could pull the trigger, make a sandwich and then get back on scope and watch it hit! It very well could have been vapor i was watching but it sure looked different than other vapor trails I've watched. Not sure how to describe it but it was literally shiny in the sunlight. Of course it was a day I forgot my video camera....oh well, guess that means I'll have to go do it again!

I can't imagine shooting at a mile and having 3.1 seconds of hang time! Need to find a much bigger piece of steel before that adventure.....heck with that amount of time I bet you could get another round in the air before the first one hit!

Like DF said it very well could have been the bullet. I've seen them before but not very often and it does depend on the light angle. I shoot long range right at daylight most of the time so it's even harder to see them then but quite often the wind is dead calm.

Yep! shooting 1k sure separate the men from the boys. You'll quickly find out that all the time you spent shooting those small groups in the bench at 100 yards won't prepare you to tackle the condition you're going to face shooting 1000 yards. I vividly remember my first 1K competition. Looking at the target downrange was so intimidating that it was nerve racking.

Wind will be your enemy not the distance. Learn to master them and you will do good. Easier said than done though.

It's 1k at the bottom of the hill

Sometimes we have to shoot in this condition too.

This is the longest target/gong on my club's range. Photo was taken from 820 yards, and I can hit it pretty regularly with my .308 Win/Rem 700.

Heck of a firing point eh? Sling up and have at it...

It can also be fired on from 1200 yards... My .308 doesn't do so well from back there.

Guy, that's pretty sweet! What size is the gong?

DF, I hear you on the wind....just a very subtle change has you missing by a bunch! I can already tell it's likely going to take years of shooting in the wind at range before i really feel like I have a handle on it. It was awfully intimidating when I sat down behind the scope and looked at the target...and thought crap, this is going to be harder than I thought!
