"For high velocity and long range rifle shooting, the best bullets I’ve ever used were Nosler. They have a fragile tip that’ll expand at most all effective ranges, yet the base half will carry on through the beast and leave a good blood trail.“Gun Notes” (January, 1962)"

Yuppers!

I’ve never shot the Partitions, but I do shoot the Accubonds.
I can’t complain about them as they’ve been wonderful for me.
I wouldn’t mind picking some up when they come on sale to test out.
I’m hoping they do sometime soon.

Partitions are excellent bullets. I put down a huge bull nilgai head on into the upper chest around 200 ish yards about 25 years ago using my 7 Mag with a 140 Partition, went down so fast and never got up. I have am embracing relationship with Accubonds and Ballistic Tips that I will never let go. Great bullets indeed.

I've only had one experience with the Nosler Partition and it wasn't good A really big bodied Nevada Mule Deer that I shot at about 35 yards. First shot he reacted if it was a heart shot the jump and kick at the belly and reversed direction. Shot number two was for the lungs and the deer reversed direction. Shots three and four were misses and shot number five broke his neck ending that fiasco of a hunt.

I was lucky in one aspect as I was able to get the truck close enough to make the drag short. Even so, I had to cut him in half just to get him into the bed of the truck. I remember the hunt quite well as it was my last deer hunt in Nevada as I got a job transfer out of state in 1979.

The rifle was a JC Higgins M50 30-06 and the bullet was the 180 gr. Nosler Partition with the protected point. I was running a max load for that rifle that I learned a few years later was only doing 2600 FPS. At no time were any of the shots more than 35 to 40 yards away.

Physical damage to the deer was about a half inch entrance, one shallow groove in the heart, a hole in both lungs that looked like they were done by poking them with a pencil and about a one inch exit. I doubt that bullet lost more than maybe 100 FPS when hitting the deer.

I know that's contrary to what everybody else says but that's the way it worked out on that one and only Partition I used on game. I don't remember the charge but it was a compressed load of Hodgden milsurp 4831 and it had deteriorated some with age.

I like Partitions and have used them on elk, mule deer, and blacktails. I do think they have improved. I remember, years ago I had a box of 7mm Partitions that looked to me like they were made on a screw machine.

I also liked the old Bitteroot Bonded Bullets, not the best accuracy, but good enough and they held together.

This is why I Don’t use partitions and didn’t shoot nosler bullets until the AccuBond. Partitions come apart-and that base might end up anywhere.

I suppose my opinion of what a bullet should behave like is more in line with the AccuBond performance. And I’ve had good success with the ablr as well.

In 1967 what other options did Elmer have?

Both the Partition and AccuBond are designed to retain about 65% of their weight.

so anyway, -in the favor of the Partition ( which I am still not). is a very good book called “One Man, One Rifle, One Land” by JY Jones. It is older but still available and is a worthy read

I got that book years ago - and had already committed to doing much of my hunting with a 30-06 Remington 700 30-06, with handloaded Nosler 165's - the combo that the author used so well for so long. He also turned to 200 grain Partitions for the really big Alaskan brown bear and I think one other critter. As did I.
