today was the end of deer season with the exception of the juvinile hunt next weekend. We braved the cold this morning and brought two does home. I killed mine with a 7x57 MK1 using a 120gr Ballistic Tip driven by Varget. My BIL carried his Ruger 77MK2 .300 Win Mag loaded with 180gr Hornadys.

We went back this evening. I carried my .416 Rigby an he took the .300 back. I didn't shoot anything but he took 2 more. All in all a good day. Now lets get ready for the blizzard. reflex264

You are going to have some great meat! Them darn does, are tender and usually not as flavorfull as the bucks. Thanks for sharing!

Good show. However, weren't you somewhat undergunned with the Rigby? The 7 X 57 is a great cartridge that does not get enough respect today.

I know what it looks like but it was 8 degrees F!!! That is about the only way I will put that parka on. We had a good year even though I only killed 3 deer. I killed 3, my sone killed 4, a kid on the young sportsman hunt killed 1 and my BIL killed 6. All these came off of the same farm. It is land that Davy Crockett actualy hunted on when he lived here. We still see around 100 deer every evening. reflex264

I dont believe in overkill. The 7x57 is one of my favorite cartrdiges. We currently have 4 of them. There isn't a better deer cartridge in the world. I have probably killed around 100 deer with various rifles in 7x57. reflex264

Congratulations there 'Flex. Hang in there with the big blizzard! At least you've got enough venison to hold you through the winter!

I was hoping for another .416 vs deer photo though...

Roy,

Nicely done, congratulations on another fun season.
