Guys I am looking to work up some low weight 30-06 loads. I am found some "reduced recoil" loads that Hornady loads, but I dont want less recoil just a lighter bullet going faster. Any one have a light weight load they love. Any you guys have found in the reloading bibles? Thanks

I would look at the most accurate powder used in the Nosler #6 with the 125gr BT and start there. That bullet seems very tough and should get you what you are looking for. I plan to load the 125gr BT for the wife's 308 this year for deer as well and I have no issues that it won't work really well. The Sierra 125gr Pro Hunter has worked great, I believe the BT will work better! Scotty

I would take a loooooog look at 53.1 grs of Varget. That is the recommended accuracy load with 125 gr Sierra bullets out of the V edition manual. My buddy shoots this load and it is very accurate in his rifle with 125 Nosler Ballistic Tips. This runs average 3100 fps which is about as fast as you want to push the 125 ballistic tip for deer size game. I have used the 125 BT in a 308 Win at 3000 fps and 30X47 HBR at 2850 fps in rifles and at 2670 fps in a 14" 30-30AI Contender pistol for a number of years and have taken around 50 deer with it and it WORKS. Just don't push it much over 3100 fps impact velocity of it will really come apart.

thanks for the suggestions. Ill be using this more for targert practice/plinking right now, but do you think it'll be enough on antelope? I would love to go out west in the next year, so I might work this load up with that in mind

Without a SINGLE doubt! It would be my choice for antelope out of a 30-06 any day of the week. You give up a little BC, but you can really make them fly fast out of a 30-06. Again, the 125gr Sierra's have worked excellent and I believe the 125gr BT is much tougher.

Here is something to look at in order to boost your confidence in the bullet. Scotty

...the 75gr. .25, 100gr 7mm & 110gr. .30cal Sierra Varminteer HP's shoot surprisingly well out of my rifles...

...Sierra #5's showing 53.4grs. of TAC @ 3300fps/ 55.6grs @ 3500fps for the '06...

Now that would be a SCREAMER right there. Look out Pronghorns! Scotty

trsmith1818,

The 125 gr BT would be more than enough bullet for speed goats but the 150 gr BT would be a better choice. The higher BC of the 150 gr BT will buck the wind better.

I've used R-15 in the 30-06 with bullet weights from 150-165gr that duplicate my 300 Savage loads. A 150gr NBT at 2700fps or so does not kick the shoulder at all, just lifts the muzzle, and would be a fine performer on antelope out of the '06. Factory 30-06 ammo wasn't much faster back in the day, and the complaining continues over 100 years later.

yeh, I already have the 150gr Accubonds over 57.5 gr of H4350 that I level deer with right now. I am just looking for something light bordering on "varmint" but chambering in 30-06...crazy I know. thanks for the suggestions so far
