looking to reward myself for quitting smoking.
what better than a new rifle for this?

looking at the luxus model 11 and it's very interresting.
but being a south paw i wonder if i could reach the hammer easily if a scope is installed.
if there's a model 11 owner on here, can you do the test for me please?
and how's the accuracy of your rifle?

thank's

Same here, congrats on kicking the habit. No idea on the Luxus though. I do know a fellow on here has one, but I don't think he has gotten to use it yet..

Don't own one but the pictures I've seen are beautiful. They appear to look a lot like a Ruger #1

You are right Scott, it hasn't been shot yet...it is at the factory getting the 3 other barrels head-spaced right now.

I have the model 11-S, which was a special run Luxus did for Scheels. It doesn't have quite as fancy Turkish walnut as their standard model 11 and is a flat black blueing instead of the case hardened finish.

I bought this with the idea that it will be passed on to my son who is left handed. The hammer is fairly stiff on the rifle, but I don't think you will have any problem reaching across to pull it back with a scope on it. If you look on their website, some of the rifles have low mounted Leupold scopes on them and it appears to show plenty of room to reach a thumb under the ocular lens to pull it back.

If you buy one, let me know and I will give you a great deal on a .270 barrel that mine came with. I have the following barrels coming in a few weeks; 6BR, 6.5X55 and 9.3X62, which will cover all my hunting needs (except those darn p-dogs) with one rifle. Once I get the barrels back I will post some pictures of the setup.

They are not a falling block action, rather it is a breech/break block action similar to a TC. You loosen an Allen screw in the forearm to remove it, 2 screws on the hanger bar, knock out the hinge pin and you can replace the barrel and quarter rib to whatever caliber you want. All the barrels are premium Shilen and come 26" long. It swings like a nice side by side and is really well balanced. Trigger is very crisp and breaks at about 2-3 lbs.

I wanted a Blaser model 95, with the idea of being able to have one platform to shoot several calibers from. They are so ridiculously priced that there is no way I could justify one. When I found out about the Luxus and how they were engineered, it was a lot easier for s shlup like me to afford.

Congratulations on quitting smoking, it took me about 10 years to quit. The money you save and the lung extended health will assist you in getting the most for your quitting. I got lung cancer which I am, so far, recovered from. Knock on wood.

I hope that you guys will post pictures and write-ups about your rifles when you get them set up? They are beautiful rifles and interesting pieces of engineering art. I am too old and don't hunt anymore, plus I already own enough rifles. They certainly are nice. I think either Jerry and Aleena or one of their children, has a Luxus Model 11 but I don't think any others here do.

Congrats on quitting- I did in '98...don't miss it a bit.

Those are a beautiful rifle! We really need some pics once you get it.

Congrats on quitting. After a half dozen or so tries I finally did it in 1975. Haven't missed them one bit. Nice rifles.
I have a bunch of Ruger #1s but what I really want is a Dakota#10. I figure one in 7x57 would be super cool.

thank's everyone!

i quit on april 7 2013, and i already saved enough money for the rifle and a nice scope to put on it.
since it's a pretty small gun and made in the USA, i am thinking of putting a leupold vx3 2.5x8-36 on it. i'm still debating on caliber, the dealer here has a few 30-06 and 7mm-08 in stock.
i have a variety of 7mm bullet to chose from on my reloading bench and it's a perfect little caliber.
the 30-06 would do anything i might ever need. but i also have a model 88 in 308 that very close in terms of application.

257 Ackley, thanks for the info.
i didn't know they used Shilen's.
and thank's for the offer on the barrel. but i don't think you could send it to Canada.
270 would be my first choice however. but they are not in stock.
and i know myself well enough to not think i could wait for him to get one in that caliber.
when i make my mind, i'll want it as soon as possible ;-)
anyway the 7-08 comes very close to the 270 in my opinion.

caribouhunter- my son and I have been working with the 7-08 for the last year or so and he's taken a couple marmots and a nice caribou bull with his. We both simply love it.

You're right- there just isn't enough difference in it and the .270 to write home about.

Yeah, I have a nice 7-08 on a Sako action that was built for mountain hunting (6.75 lbs. with a Swarovski 3-9) that has taken 3 elk and several deer. It is a great caliber and performed well for me using 140 Swift A-frames and 140 Accubonds. My son uses the 120 grain BT's for deer in his (lefty) Browning bolt rifle as well.

That caliber should work very well in a Luxus. I'm not sure how they throat their barrels, but you may be able to get the longer ABLR's to shoot in it. I want to try them if I can ever find some.
