Well, I just finished loading some 200gr Rem Core Lokt RN's over Hodgdon's Leverevolution powder, Wincehster cases and CCI BR2 primers. I crimped them all with the Lee FCD. Anyhow, hopefully I will get out tomorrow and shoot the Win M94AE 30-30, loaded with 170gr Sierra, LVR powder, CCIBR2's and WW cases also. I am not really into the speed thing with these two rifles since they both have Williams 5D Receiver sights on them. Not looking for gopher loads, but it will be cool to see what they do. Should be good deer rifles in the close woods or while running dogs when hunting with Woodycreek down at his club.

Just as a caution to you all, if you buy one lever gun, they will all reproduce. Soon, there will be more and more in the safe. They are such good handling rifle. Hard not to like them. Scotty

That Marline certainly has some fine character in the wood. The 30-30 should be a ton of fun for deer this fall.

I'm in the midst of a trade with a Model 94 chambered in 375 for another Model 94 in the same chambering. However, the one I'm picking up is angle eject, which will permit me to mount a scope atop it. With the Williams peep sight, I can consistently get 2.5 to 3 inch groups at 100 yards, which is certainly adequate for deer. You are correct, though, that handling a good lever gun can spoil an individual very quickly.

You aren't kidding Mike. I could not hardly put my 45-70 down this year. I carried it for everything-everywhere. It just feels so darn good in the hands and they are super handy up in a tree. Can't wait to spill some blood with them. I have grown to really like carrying the lever rifle in woods type hunting. Just something cool about it!

Hope you score that 375 Win. I am kinda surprised you don't have a M94 in 444 Marlin. I would have thought it would have tripped your trigger also Mike. Scotty

Thanks Rod. I do like that one quite alot. It is thus unfired by me, but she is cleaned up and ready for some range time. Jim said the 200gr RN CL's are sure deer/bear killers, so I decided to load them up, and heck they are pretty cheap too! Scotty

My first game with the first 356 I had was from a tree stand. Man, was that ever slick. You'll love carrying either of those. You may give up on the 45-70 for a while just so you can tote these bad boys.

So far, my M94 hasn't produced any offspring, but I've been looking hard at Marlin 45-70s...

Scotty

The Marlin 336 35 Rem is a beauty, fine looking wood for sure.
The 200 gr SPCL is the perfect bullet in the 35 Rem.

BK

The sooner you get a M1895 45-70, the happier you will be.

BK, what are you waiting for? The 45-70 is the king of Leverguns! Scotty

NICE! I luv's me some leverguns. BK, no 45/70??? You are almost out of the cool club now.

Win pre64 30/30
Win 94AE .307
1895G .45/70
336 .35 Rem

Always looking for more......

Whoa, I was IN the cool club? When did that happen?

Seriously, as soon as I pick up my M70 Coyote and get some glass on it, I'll step up the pace of the lever gun quest. Although...

Doc Mike, I'm coming to you for a little guidance. Do I look for a couple of .45-70s, or do I pick up more M70s?

Oops, Scotty, sorry for the thread hijack.

All I have lever wise is a Marlin 336 in 30-30 and the Sako Finnwolf in 308 win.

Love them both.

Scotty...I know chances are non-existent but I called dibs on that 35 Rem long ago!

Nothing wrong with the lever guns. I'm working on restoring a Model 94 375 Win right now. I still have two 356 Winchesters in my safe. I'm keeping my eyes open for a 45-70 that I want. I assure you that this will not preclude snagging a Model 70 if I see one I don't have. BK, you're posing the wrong solution; the answer is not either/or--it is both/and. You need a global view of this issue.

Mike nailed it! Plus, you can find some nice Marlin's and Winchester's when your looking for them. I just happened to be going to buy an M70 Featherweight 7WSM and when I couldn't find that rifle, I found the 336 35 Rem. I kinda got lucky with it, but I do wish I could have gotten both! Scotty

Scotty,

Post a close up picture of the 35 Remington 200 gr SPCL. A classic round for sure.

Jim:

When I had one I handloaded my 35 Rem I used the 200 gr Flex tips at 2200 fps.
We were breaking bowling pins at 200 yards. What fun.
