Jim, if it is not broke, dont fix it LOL First reports are that your recipe was perfect. Thank you.

I would feel like the luckiest person in the world if I was able to get a 300 yard shot, 400 hundred is more likely, so the only difference is they are going to zero at 300

David, as per our conversation, I have already started training. If I work real hard maybe I can be in half the shape Scotty is in--I am going to try. I dont want to be a marine, I just want to be able to get up the mountain LOL
Either that Aleena or you get that Marine to carry you up the mountain!

I am not sure about carrying, but I am not against tieing a rope around me!

Aleena, Ibex are not large animals but you may want to consider the 150 PT for ranging effectivity (bullet drop) at 500 yards. I shot the 140, 150 and 160 PT's in my .280 for years. You can with reloading get over 3000 fps with the 150 gr and it only .020 additional ballistic coefficient for the 150 or another .020 for the 160 grain, plus they will buck the wind better.

In any event, any bullet of the three will most likely get the job at hand done with aplomb. Enjoy your hunt.

Charlie, nice to hear from you. and thank you for your suggestions

The Ibex, will be the easy one of the two, that is for sure.

Jim gave us a recipe using the 140 that is looking real good , so I believe that is the one we will take with us. Thanks again Jim for taking the time to send that to us.

side note. As scotty knows we have always used the Swift bullet and people that know us are all surprised we are going with Nosler on this trip. Even our daughters said--"what happened to Swift " LOL

There is certainly nothing wrong with Swift bullets; I use a fair number of Swift A-Frames and have done so for quite a few years. However, especially in calibres smaller than, say, .375, Nosler Partitions perform just as well, and in some instances may perform in a superior manner to the A-Frame.

If you knew how to hunt you would not need to shoot at animals 300 yards from you. try knitting and you wont have to worry about breaking a nail and you can help eliminate animal cruelty with your attempted long shots.

Is this really necessary. I believe there are several members on this forum who can shoot well at 300 yards and beyond. to be honest I am not one of them, but they are here.

If you have hunted these animals in their natural terrain and have a suggestion for getting closer, please share it with us, as that is what the forum is all about, sharing information. With a little common courtesy we can all co-exist pretty easy, and speaking at least for myself, we can also learn a little along the way.

Smokepole, that sort of sarcasm is unwarranted. It is not necessary to think that you can somehow build your own stature through slandering others.

SmokePole - it's almost humorous that you've decided to insult someone who has more hunting experiences than an overwhelming majority of all hunters.

I don't know you or your background but I'd suggest trying a different tack if you're offering advice or sharing your knowledge.

I think I know his background folks.. I think he was getting bored over on his regular place and has decided to come over here and rile folks up. Won't work...

We won't play like that..

Deleted by MJS. I don't need to respond in kind. Shame on me for letting my outrage show.

Just shows what a lowlife he is attacking the integrity of a lady he doesn't even know.

+ 1

kind of sad, especially if you do know her. There are a few gentlemen here, Tom, Trevor, Scotty, David, Sean and Charlie who has know her for quite a while and she will go out of her way to help someone. I ask her a question via pm, on a different forum about a particular double rifle and got back a very detailed report about the gun.

However, in looking through the forum this morning I see he didnt stop here, he managed to insult several members, and you gentlemen also didnt deserve to be insulted. If it is who i think it is, Tom is right, he is a true pain the butt

If it were me I would go with the 140 AB. The 140 BT would work, but the bullet will be the cheapest part of your hunt. If it were me I would spend a few extra bucks on the tougher AB. I do have a new found respect for the 140 BT out of my 280 AI after watching my dad dump a bull elk with it this last fall, but I still like the AB better.

If RL-22 doesn't work out for you, I have also had great luck with RL-17, and IMR 7828. RL-17 provided better velocities and overall better accuracy in my rifle.

My grandson went to Texas with his dad last week and killed five ferrule hogs with a .280 Rem, Browning A-bolt. He used the .284, 140 CT Silvertips @2950 fps on four smaller pigs (50-120 pounds) and they killed these animals DRT at up to 150 yards. The largest, about 400 pounds, he killed with a 8 inch knife.

That has to be a rush. I've watched these kills on videos. They are pretty heady stuff.

Aleena,

Sorry for the attack from the troll, he is gone!

Glad the 280 AI load is working out for you.
When is your hunt?
We will count the days with you.

I know both Aleena and smokepole. One is filled with class and the other has none. Good call by nuking this one.
