What do you guys think of this rifle. I'm considering putting a bid on it on Bivwak. Do you think $400 is an good/awesome deal(if I win)?
Please reply quickly as the auction ends today at 7 PDT

sells for 508 @ Buds so 400 would be fair no steal but if its something you have been looking for jump on it. For me it would not be worth it but if you want one get it.

..........Go for it!!..........It`s a wonderful, handy, easy carrying and a fast to action bear, hog or anything else thumper.

Well, I went ahead a placed a bid on it - so far under $400. If I win great, otherwise oh well, no big loss.

Rich,

Even over $400 would be a great price.
The 45-70 is a fun round to load for, from mild to wild.
I love my 1895G.

Auction ended at 7 PM. It was taken for $437.

I really shouldn't be buying any rifles right now anyway. I need to get stuff paid off for my pending AF retirement.

I hear you Rich.
Get yourself in good shape, then pick up a few rifles after retirment.
Besides, then you will have plenty of time to work up loads.

Not really, at that time I'll have to join the civilian workforce. Also, I loose the availability of a 100M rifle shooting range that doesn't cost ME anything to shoot at - Vandenberg Rod & Gun Club. I can go there anytime it's light enough to shoot, whether their open or not.
I also need to buy another safe as my current long gun collection has my 12/24 safe at capacity - funny how if you have scoped rifles, there's no way to get 12 rifles in those 12 slots.

I have two of the 1895G rifles. My main hunting gun is a 1895 rifle 22" barrel reintroduced around '71 . I have owned it since that time. Lets just say I have scored some major game with that one.If you are going to buy, yeah $400 is a fair price for the gun.
I paid $450 for a used stainless guild gun if that help you any.
