Mixing cases?

Why is it whenever I decide on a project that a question like the op's comes up? Right now I'm prepping up a batch of .300 Win. mag. brass for my back up rifle that I'm taking on my cow elk hunt in December. Seems there's Federal, Remington, Winchester and even a few Hornady's in the mix. :shock: The bullet will be the Nosler 200 gr. Partition and the powder Winchester's long discontinued WMR, a real whiz-banger in the .300 Win. Magnum. The loads will be tested in a Winchester M70 with what appears to be a McMillan blind magazine stock. The rifle was a cheapie Walmart special that came with a useless 3x9 Simmons scope that was quickly replaced with a 3x9 Leupold. What was the big surprise is that rifle is sub-MOA with the 200 gr. Speer Hot Core and a stiff charge of that WMR powder. One can only hope that load with the Nosles will be just as accurate.

I use to do this and wont anymore. For me, its a personal thing.

Each brass now has its own load data. Each brass goes to its own chamber.

That 200gr Speer is just about identical to the 200 PT, I hope it shoots the same for you Paul. I know the 250 Speer shoots almost identical to the 250 PT in my Whelen. I am rooting for you buddy.

I spend a lot of time making sure that everything is the same with every reloaded cartridge as I can make it be so. I also shoot loads that are near maximum and I have pretty high standards for accuracy from these loads. When I pull the trigger, my only concern is high performance in accuracy and in constant, repeatable velocity (and by inference, pressure) round after round.

The thought of mixing cases makes me nervous and tense just thinking about it. That is why I will never buy any used cases and use them myself. I do not think that I could even do it in good conscience. This is why I always have at least two benches (to his left) between me and the other guy who sits beside me at the range, if I do not know him. One friend of mine nearly died from a custom Mauser extractor embedded in his throat from an 8mm Mauser that chambered and fired in a .30-06/8mm.

In the past 50 years, I have see three rifles blown up at the range and partially disassembled in the process. I hope that I never see another. In each case the guy who it happened to would admit no issues.
