Look to be an excellent deal and from some of the range reports at 24hourcampfire they seem to be very accurate. Since Winchester refuses to support us lefties these look to be at least as good if not better so I'm considering getting an XWR-SS in 264 WM or 270 Win after my guns sell on consignment at Corlane's Sports. Tough call, I still have my current 264 WM so the 270 may get the nod although I may still sell my current 264 and get 2 new guns :)

I contacted the company and they are beginning to make their own stocks that will be lighter in weight then the Bell and Carlson currently offered. The 264 should come in at around 7 lbs 2 oz from what they said which isn't bad at all, should be a hair over 8 lbs all scoped up.

My buddy Paul had a rifle built on one of ther actions. They make a nice action, similar to winchester classic. His rifle was a 458 lott. It turned out really well.

From what I can remenber it was a very easy action to work with, barreled it, bedded it and good to go.

I'm a fan myself Gerry. I've handled a couple. Chances are I'd buy a XWR by Montana before another new Model 70. Pre64 style trigger, nice machining, and low numbers of complaints that I've found. I'd really like one of them in a 300 Win Mag or similar. Especially if they area touch lighter with the new stocks.

Looks like a lot of bang for the buck Gerry.
Nice selection of calibers to choose from, including the RUMs and the 26 Nosler.
The 280 Rem is nice to see as well.

RMR used Montana actions for quite some time before designing their own. The actions are bullet proof and reliable. I wouldn't hesitate to get into one. They were easy to like.

Patrick Holehan, a Gunsmith, uses their actions in his builds and likes them. That says a lot!

I guess I have not look at the bolt enough on my two RMRs .
Sorry for wasting your time DrMike.

I noticed those two as well, great to see both offered, they got the twists right on those as well.

Still like the 264 WM a lot, the 26 Nosler is a really good round but it is more cartridge than I would ever need. Can't see myself ever shooting even at 500 yards at game so the 264 or 270 would be more than enough.

I think they are around $900 to $1,000 but don't hold me to that.
What I do know is there are a few on Gunbroker but not too many. $1200ish in Canada seems about right given the cost of exporting, exchange rates, and such.

I like them. Like the idea behind essentially copying the Model 70 action and building the whole thing right there in Montana!

But... The last couple I handled seemed a little heavy, and not that well balanced. Nothing like a Model 70 Featherweight, more like the standard Model 70, but heavier somehow. Perhaps it was just the sample I tried?

Still.... I can see the potential!

Gerry you might remember I was having buying pains when I was starting this Winchester Model 70 hunt for a .280 Remington or a 280 AI. I wanted a Winchester Model 70 with the controlled round feed, the whole bit. I thought about the Montana Rifle Company rifles and even stopped in at the shop and poked around. I was impressed, very impressed by the quality and how nice they are. They use the best of the old Model 70 and the Mauser 98 and even incorporate a few of their own ideas into it. The barrels are made right next door, walking distance away! I checked out three rifles and each trigger felt exactly like the previous one I just held in my hands. All set right at 3 pounds! PERFECT......... The fit and finish was great and the barrels sat perfectly in the channel with an even space on each side. You all will like this too, they use the old style Winchester trigger that is so fool-proof, adjustable, and reliable!!

So what do I do, I still go ahead and find a Model 70 and have a custom barrel put on it and all the extra stuff you have to do. Just had that model 70 on my brain I guess and nothing was talking me out of it. That being said if I get one more rifle, and I PROMISE IT WILL BE MY LAST ONE, it will be to get one of their models in a 6mm Remington. They said they will chamber the 6mm if you ask them. Might cost a few dollars more but hey, it's worth it!!

I like MRC as well. I would need to see the " real world" prices on there actions as you can still find classic M70's for what they have the actions MSRP'd at.

But with the old style trigger, MRC becomes my action of choice if I ever need to build a rifle from scratch.

Pat, That would tip the scales for me as well, having the old style trigger. They have a pretty, nice wood stocked rifle with that rigger for basically $1300.

I would still like to get one in 264 WM one day but it is going to have to wait, I have something else coming and should be here next week. Of course I let you know what it is when it gets here. The MRC looks to be quite nice and is on the short list, maybe next year................

There is a MRC in 264 win at a local shop. Stock is very similar to winchester extreme weather series. It was considerably marked down on Black Friday. I was sorely tempted to pick it up and rechamberable to 26 nosler but the 1-9 twist held me up. Had that been a 1-8 I would have a shiny new 26 nosler right now! Pretty nice looking rifles.
