Consistency That is the key Pops. Do everything the same way every time.

I used to have the same gun a long time ago but in 50 cal. I liked FFG 80 grains with the Thompson Center Maxi-Hunter in 350 grain. They make the same bullet in 54 cal but in 435 grain.

Of course you can always do the patch and round ball which is gun too.

Enjoy your new toy!

I've liked the Hornady Great Plains bullet in my 54. TIP! use Windex on a patch between shots and your groups will shrink. i.e. the barrel is the same for each shot (fouling). With those side hammers, I used to spin the nipple out and drop a "kernal" or two of powder behind it to ensure that I'll have an ignition when I pull the trigger.

First thing to know is when you have "too many" you better sell me that .22Mag...... :) Have fun with the smoke poll! CL

POP,

So this is your dream rifle? You didn't have to wait 90 days!

That is a big negative Ghostrider!

My baby is being built from scratch...And the chambering has NOT been discussed here before. I should know! 8)

I have a similar .50 cal T-C that I used to hunt mule deer with. They are really great rifles!

Never felt under gunned with a 385 gr Hornady Great Plains bullet over a healthy charge of either black or Pyrodex.

I think I'm going to break it out again next year... Maybe for elk!
