New Eyes - Maybe for my 7mm08 M48 TGR

Well, I got real lucky, this Alaskan Guide 1" 3-10x40mm is really, really nice indeed. First it has true edge to edge clarity which you will see in the following pictures. It is a true measured 4" eye relief across the power band and that is so cool. Metal cap covers for windage and elevation turrets is nice also. Bore sighted the scope and the clicks were very positive crisp clicks. At dusk this evening I compared it against the Leupold FX II 6x fixed scope that was on the Nosler M48 TGR and with both at 6x power the Alaskan Guide lasted longer after sunset and it also last a bit longer than the Leupold on 10x. Love the ocular focus. Also, I changed the steel Leupold bases and rings for Warne bases and rings which weight less and with scope and rings my rifle weighs 7.9 lbs two ounces more than with the fixed 6x Leupold.

Very clear scope, here I am holding the scope with my left hand and my camera with my right and still look at the quality of light and edge to edge clarity and it is so much better when you look through the scope instead of looking through a camera lens.

Light Optics makes the glass for the high end Vortex scopes and a lot of people like them. I have no experience with the Alaskan Guide scopes that Cabela's sells. Light apparently also makes glass for the Weaver Tactical scopes.

If you are pleased with the scope and clarity of optics, that is what counts.

Will find out how it track this week at the range and here are pictures of it on the rifle.

I did not want to say much about looking in the scope yesterday at dusk after only looking through it a little and seeing which one did better at dusk, but guys, this is extremely clear glass, I am not exaggerating one bit, I am totally surprised and pleased.

I got out early this morning with it on my rifle just to see if my impressions were the same as yesterday evening. Guys, you would not believe the clarity of the lens, the edge to edge clarity all the way up to max 10x. It is so crisp and clear providing extraordinary detail, I was even afraid to mention how it rivals very expensive scopes.

What is also cool is that when light is very low like yesterday evening at dusk, I can still see the drop reticle and all the marks and dots. It is so hard to believe that a scope under 300.00 could be so clear that I took out the 06 with the Redfield and also the Leupold fixed 6x power scope and a Zeiss Conquest (one I sold my neighbor and he let me use it this morning) long with a VX III to compare again. The Redfeild does not even come close to the clarity and there is enough difference for sure between the Leupolds and the Alaskan Guide that it is easy to notice and it had better edge to edge than the Zeiss and brings out detail in object better.

Now if this thing tracks correctly and I am assuming it will, I might some time next fall get one for the 06 if I can swing it, that is how impressed I am. I am not trying to overstate it because I bought it and now I am stuck with it. To the contrary, I am now very glad I bought this scope. Can't wait to let a few of my friends look through this scope. It takes a lot to impress me and I can say for sure I am impressed and so pleased that I did not blow it when buying this scope. :)

Looks pretty nice Mike. What mounts did you use on it?

Sorry about my initial response to you, those are not Warne mounts and rings, those are first generation Talley. I have a set of Warne bases and Max rings coming. I guess I had Warne on the brain when I responded to you this morning.

Put my 3-10x40mm EXT Alaskan Guide mounted with Warne bases and rings on my TGR M48 7mm08

Updating this thread:

Went out with my rifle this evening to see how well my scope did in the ambient light which is the combination of light reflections from various surfaces to produce a uniform illumination and is the last bright moment after sunset which was at 7:37pm this evening. I picked out a pine tree 130yds away and a gray AT&T gray cable box with stickers up the one side facing me. At 7:51 I was still seeing the writing on the stickers and the individual pieces of bark on the pine tree and these two objects are not out in the open but have a tree line just 10yds behind them and I am looking west into the setting light. At 8:00 pm I can still seeing the stickers but not the the writing on the gray box and at 8:05 still seeing the individual pieces of bark on the pine tree. All in all not bad for looking through my scope on max 10x. This scope will let me hunt in low light up to the legal limit just fine. Can't wait for next deer season

That is good Mike, I am glad that you have had such good luck with this scope.

Well it is luck after me blowing the spec research, I am just glad I did not waste the money and it turned out ok. Thanks for being glad it went ok.

New calculations for better use of 160gr Speer SBT with EXT reticle and zero is 230yds
