There are a few 6.5-06s floating around here. It is a fine round. Most of the boys shooting that cartridge find that they get better case life and better accuracy as they throttle back from maximum loads, it seems. I don't believe the 264 WM is any harder on a barrel than any other cartridge. The problem is that people fail to recongise that they are expending a lot of powder to push a projectile down a relatively small orifice. There will be significant throat erosion very quickly if they try to shoot hot and fail to keep the bore clean. I generally advise that any bore smaller than 28 calibre be maintain more scrupulously, especially if the powder charge routinely exceeds 70 grains. I have witnessed severe and rapid erosion of the barrels of such cartridges as 257 STW, 243 WSSM and 223 WSSM, and even 7.21 Tomahawks and 7.21 Firebirds.
