Just mounted my new scope for my elk getter, a Win M70 Classic Stainless in .300 Win Mag with a 24" Benchmark 3-groove barrel and a HS Precision stock.
I had several features that I considered mandatory.

Fairly low end power with moderate high zoom.
Dial up elevation turret.
Low profile turret and 40mm obj. to be scabbard and balance friendly.
Illuminated dot reticle without multiple ballistic hashmarks.
No adjustable obj. to mess with and save weight and moving parts.
Good eye relief.
Reasonably priced.

Could find only one scope that worked for me. If I missed one let me know, but it's too late anyway.
The winner is.......

Leupold VX-R 3-9x40 with CDS and Firedot Duplex (would have preferred a 4A if offered)
In Burris Signature Zee rings with the .010" inserts installed for elevation gain.

Congratulations on a very nice elk rig. The VX-R is a nice scope.

Oh, yes, that'll do nicely for elk. I looked at a couple of the VXR scopes earlier this year. They are quite nice. Good choice.

That's a nice looking shooter!

Not to go completely off-topic, but how do you like the Benchmark barrel? Did they install it?

Not a one holer, took a little work to get under MOA, but have 200 gr. ABs shooting around 3/4 to 7/8" with H-1000. !80 gr ABs about the same with H-4831SC.
Kind of expected better, but it's improving as more rounds go out the pipe.
Much improved from the OEM barrel, and good enough for elk, IMHO.
The guys at Benchmark did the install and chambering.

Nice looking rig. I hope that it shoots as well for you as it looks. It should, all of the components are there for accuracy.

I lied, I looked. 75 MOA.

edit: on the 4-12x. The 3-9 was 60 MOA.
